Overview:
Position Summary:
The Principal Scientist, Molecular Biology is an independent drug discovery scientist who focuses on the design and execution of projects in their area of expertise. This position will emphasize molecular biology skills for biological, immunological, or other pharmacological analysis in the context of drug discovery. In this position, you will drive focused internal and contract drug discovery and biological research as part of a team of scientists, addressing complex scientific questions in a fluid team environment. Efficient and effective execution is critical.
Responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This position will primarily provide molecular biology support for Cell Biology, Immunology and/or Pharmacology. Broad cell biology expertise will also be expected. Essential roles, responsibilities, and activities a candidate may expect to assume in this position are listed below:
Technology and/or project leadership for internal and/or external projects
Strategy, planning and execution of biologic research studies
Independently develop and validate assays and models including automation and execution
Effective data analysis, interpretation, and impact planning
Quantitative and qualitative analysis
Development of project plans and effective participation in SOW generation and execution
Coordinate equipment and supply needs/purchases
Grant writing, manuscript preparation and external presentation
Presentations and report writing both internal and with customers and other stake holders
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
Ph.D. with 2+ years' experience or B.S./M.S. scientist with 8+ years relevant drug discovery experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Behaviors:
Deep understanding of molecular biology methodologies and basic cell biology and immunology.
Preferred molecular biology skills include RNA extraction and qPCR, gene knock-in and knock-out, siRNA, shRNA, transient and stable transfections, use of lentivirus and baculovirus, CRISPR, and nucleofection
Preferred cell biology and immunology skills include expertise in cell and tissue culture techniques, immune cell isolation, cell activation, and measuring molecular and phenotypic responses
Preferred pharmacology skills include an understanding of drug dosing, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, and ADME. Animal handling experience is not expected
Ability to independently design, develop and execute new approaches and effectively apply traditional approaches to drug design and biological analysis
Viewed as an emerging expert in field of study
Work across lines, interface effectively with project teams, chemistry leadership, company management and customers
Effectively communicate complex data and concepts to the broader organization
Ability to effectively function in a fast paced, challenging, multidisciplinary team environment
