The Opportunity

Come and join PEAK for a paid internship program in the cattle AI industry. PEAK is a global company with multiple semen production centers across the world providing superior beef and dairy genetics to our clients.

You will learn more on world-class cattle genetics, progressive male reproductive solutions, and advance your knowledge of a Global AI Center business. You will be working side-by-side with barn, veterinary and research staff and will be part of a team of interns at our different production sites in North America. You will enhance your knowledge in the cattle AI industry and grow your professional skills while working in a global AI company. At the end of the program you will visit other PEAK production sites and present the results of your project to management.

Our production centers are in Ithaca, NY, Shawano, WI, Watertown, WI, Billings, MT and Calgary, Canada. Housing accommodations may be arranged if needed. Must have your own vehicle.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Intern will be responsible for a project in bull/calf husbandry for dairy and beef bulls that is focused on data analysis
  • Assist in all areas of AI Center semen production and bull management
  • Assist the production team with semen collection, feeding & bedding, health testing, semen processing and associated record keeping.
  • View and assist with the diagnosis and treatment of AI Center animals.
  • Participate in arrival calf processing and exams
  • Follow and understand all safety and biosecurity procedures
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner with respect to self and others

Candidate Profile

Knowledge & Experience
  • Experience working with large animals is a must
  • Be comfortable working around large animals, specifically bulls
  • Have an interest in the bovine AI industry
  • Be self-motivated and be able to work in a team
  • Be able to work full time (40 hours/week) during the program during the summer

Skills & Competencies
  • Strong data driven mindset with skills in Excel and preferred knowledge about statistics and data analysis

  • Current undergraduate or Graduate with BS animal science, zoology, agriculture, or other animal related areas of study is highly desired
