Job Summary

The following are responsibilities related to the Supervisor Animal Care : Provide supervision of personnel and operations to ensure the care of laboratory animals, facilities, and animal environments. Independently handle routine personnel-related issues; assist in the handling of complex personnel-related issues. Oversee and assist with monitoring of animal areas for adherence to regulatory agencies (i.e.: AALAC, USDA, CDC) requirements and adherence to industry standards for animal care and welfare. Assist in the coordination and scheduling of activities of the department through hands-on technical support, delegation of responsibility and/or authority to subordinates. Schedule and prioritize workload of group members. Schedule overtime as authorized. Review and approve time cards. Coordinate vacation/time off schedules. Inspect the animal facilities and animal room environments in assigned areas to ensure that they meet acceptable standards. Submit work orders for improvements as necessary. Work closely with subordinate husbandry and technical staff to complete all husbandry and pre-study projects. Provide animal care/husbandry expertise and technical guidance as needed. Ensure all departmental equipment is maintained in good working condition and that departmental area(s) are maintained in a clean and orderly condition.

Job Qualifications

The following are minimum qualifications related to the Supervisor Animal Care position:

* Education: Associate's degree (A.A. /A.S.) or equivalent in life sciences or related discipline.
* Experience: 4-6 years related experience. 2 years direct experience with relevant species, one year leadership experience preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

* Certification/Licensure: AALAS Certification at ALAT level required.
* Other: Effective communication and interpersonal skills required. Demonstrated knowledge of federal regulations and guidelines relating to the care of laboratory animals including facility inspection, procurement, and distribution of laboratory animals preferred. Knowledge of animal care and welfare standards as defined by AAALAC, USDA, CDC, US Fish and Wildlife preferred. Must be computer literate, experience with Microsoft required, Enos Database and SAP preferred.
