Job Summary:

This position will champion the company environmental program relating to applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Primary responsibilities of this position include environmental permitting and regulatory compliance, as well as planning, developing, implementing, and administering environmental programs across all TMC locations. Interfacing with associates and management regarding Environmental and Sustainability initiatives is also imperative in this position to reduce accidents and improve environmental, health, and safety within the organization.

Job Details:
  • Maintain compliance for environmental programs and work with project teams to identify and apply for air, waste or water permit modifications as needed.
  • Develop and drive a Sustainable working environment that focuses on the 3 pillars of economy, society, and the environment.
  • Conduct EHS related initiatives for numerous sites that include lab safety, distribution, warehousing, manufacturing, and administrative function oversight.
  • Conduct environmental audits of facilities to comply with regulations, identify best practices and pinpoint unsafe working conditions, behaviors and practices.
  • Champion the conceptual framework of Terumo's environmental footprint to address resource conservation and establish a strong Corporate Social Responsibility.
  • Manage state and federal environmental review, regulatory interpretation, and permitting processes (including environmental assessment worksheets, environmental assessments, and environmental impact statements)
  • Identify and interpret EHS regulatory standards that impact operational exposures and business activities and coordinate needed plans to ensure compliance.
  • Train and coach managers and supervisors on EHS requirements including incident investigation, training, engineering control improvements and policy updates.
  • Responsibility of EPA and MDE reporting for Title V/ CAA and SARA, RCRA Waste and Storm Water compliance.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001, environmental indicators and impacts, particularly with respect to carbon, water, energy, and resources.
  • Scientific computing skills, including data analysis, visualization, and working with large datasets. Programming experience is preferred.
  • Responsible for the following environmental programs: Waste streams including solid (e.g. biological / hazardous), liquid and airborne emissions.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance for all Environmental, Occupational Health, Safety and Industrial Hygiene Programs.
  • Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team and be available for on-call response.
  • As part of EHS team be responsible for incident/root cause investigation for all injuries and spills within the organization.
  • Coordinate investigations and activities associated with Sustainability improvements.
  • Manage or when managed by another department support recordkeeping requirements associated with EHS programs.
  • Maintain an effective relationship with EHS related agencies (e.g. State of Maryland, emergency management services).
  • Understand and work within the quality systems, following FDA and applicable international regulations as required.
  • Performs other job related duties assigned.


  • Position Requirements:

    • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Broad experience, understanding, and knowledge of local environmental regulations, as well as state and federal laws regarding environmental permitting.
    • Strong communication skills and ability to influence associates and management as well as interface with external agencies.
    • Proficient user of Microsoft Office software and experience with online reporting and analytical and statistical tools.
    • Ability to set up and work within an organized, document-controlled environment.

    o Thorough knowledge of EPA, MDE, OSHA, NFPA, and other related compliance requirements.

    o To gain access to Sterilization (GAMMA) area, associate must go through a background check by fingerprinting through the NRC.

    ?
    • Requires a four-year college degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, chemical engineering or related field and 7 years of related EHS experience in a manufacturing environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Active 40-hour Hazwoper certification a plus
