Job Description

We are seeking highly motivated and passionate individuals to join our Summer Internship Program. As an intern at Kite, you'll have the unique opportunity to learn about cell therapy from some of the brightest minds in biotech while making a meaningful impact. The Role

This is a project management and laboratory operations management internship within the Research Strategic Operations function of Kite Research. The goals of the project are to co-develop, revise, and execute business processes in support of scientific and laboratory operations.

The individual in this intern position will be responsible for supporting the five phases of a project (initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closure), under guidance, that will enhance the safety, efficiency, and workflow of key activities for the Research Team. Project management skills, including stakeholder management, work break down, documentation and meeting management, process creation, project monitoring, and risk assessments will be taught and heavily utilized in this endeavor. This internship will provide an exciting and engaging role in the many aspects of support Research Operations provides to the Research team, cross-functional business partners, the projects, and strategic pillars of Kite.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Learning the laboratory and workflow designs, purposes, risks, and opportunities for improvement
  • Building relationships within the Research staff and with cross-functional business partners, including Facilities and Environmental Health and Safety for needs requirements, stakeholder management, collaboration and cooperation throughout project lifecycle
  • Learning and deploying numerous project management tools and processes from the RSO team to support the five phases of a project and ensure project success
  • Strategic and collaborative thinking, problem solving, proactive and focused communications, leadership and reliability
  • Active participation in the empowering culture within RSO and Kite to bring your perspective and experiences to enrich our processes and our community
  • Ask questions, share ideas, show initiative, be ready to learn and grow
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years or older
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 2.8
  • Must be currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate degree program at an accredited university/college
  • Must have completed at least one year of study at an accredited university/college prior to internship commencing
  • Must be enrolled in the Fall Semester at an accredited university/college after the completion of the internship - graduation date of December 2022 or Spring/Summer 2023
  • Must be able to complete a 10-12 consecutive week internship between June and September
  • Must be eligible to work in the US and will not require future sponsorship by Kite, a Gilead Company
  • Must be able to work remotely or relocate if necessary and work at the designated site for the duration of the internship
  • Must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination 3 months prior to start of internship
  • Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in bachelor's degree with emphasis in biology, microbiology, immunology, zoology, biochemistry, chemistry, environmental sciences, business management, or other life sciences focus
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite
  • Ability to identify issues and seek solutions
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively/Ability to work in collaborate in cross functional teams in fast pace, dynamic team setting
  • Efficient, organized, and able to handle short timelines in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience and/or interest in the Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical or health-care industry
  • Positive, can-do attitude with a sense of urgency and eagerness to support great science and the teams conducting it
  • Biological laboratory experience and experience with following laboratory safety procedures a plus
