About the Position

Senior Environmental Planner | Watertown, MA

VHB is hiring a senior professional who has experience in preparing environmental review documentation in accordance with the federal-level National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and state-level Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA), as well as other environmental studies for a diverse set of clients. Prior experience and interest in environmental justice, Title VI, transportation equity, socioeconomic analysis, and/or environmental permitting are a plus.

VHB's overall environmental team provides a wide range of integrated services such as environmental permitting, sustainability and resiliency planning, urban planning, comprehensive master planning, solid waste management, air quality and noise studies, natural resource management, water conservation and water quality projects, historic resource planning, and community engagement. We are looking for applicants that have a strong understanding of and interest in supporting our full range of environmental services.

Responsibilities

Conduct technical analyses in accordance with NEPA and MEPA regulatory requirements.

Review environmental studies and work prepared by others.

Prepare environmental documentation and presentations.

Manage and execute environmental scopes and budgets amongst a diverse range of technical resource groups.

Facilitate stakeholder meetings, public workshops, and public hearings.

Maintain highest level of quality assurance and control expected by VHB and our clients.

Build relationships with clients, project managers, colleagues, and sub‑consultants.

Support business development activities including preparing scopes of work, fee estimates, and schedules

Skills & Abilities

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Strong technical writing and presentation skills

Ability to solve problems and think creatively

Detail-oriented and highly organized

Capable of coordinating and performing multiple tasks independently, and also within a fast-paced team environment

Strong time-management skills

Demonstrated leadership, coaching and/or mentoring skills are desired

Ability to travel in the future (with consideration of current COVID-related travel restrictions)

Qualifications

BS/BA in environmental planning, urban planning, environmental science, or a related field (MS/MA degree a plus)

5+ years of professional experience in environmental consulting or related field

Experience with environmental and sustainability regulations, policy, and practice

Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP), LEED, or WELL certification a plus

Writing samples and references required
