About the Position
Environmental Planner | Hauppauge, NY
VHB's Hauppauge, New York office is seeking an Environmental Planner to join our to growing energy practice. We provide our clients with consulting services to plan, site, and monitor major projects and meet the growing demand for new energy infrastructure in New York.
Responsibilities
Participate in the coordination and preparation of local, state, and federal permits for energy projects with a particular focus on offshore wind energy projects subject to BOEM review.
Assist in the coordination of stakeholder outreach and engagement, including public meetings, tribal, federal and state agency consultation and coordination, and public comment-response tracking.
Participate in the preparation of environmental impact statements and assessments pursuant to the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), planning and zoning studies, and visual impact analyses.
In support of environmental documents, conduct data collection, environmental planning analyses, land use surveys, and historic resources research, and assist with agency coordination and public outreach.
Assist Project Managers and Deputy Project Managers in project scope development, cost estimation, staff resource identification, implementation oversight, budget tracking, and completion of administrative requirements
Assist in the coordination of multidisciplinary VHB and subcontracted project teams
Develop supporting figures and mapping for various projects using GIS and/or CAD
Skills & Abilities
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Self-motivated
Attention to detail
Excel in working in a team environment
Understanding or experience with BOEM, NEPA, land use regulations, and sustainability planning is a plus
Ability to make maps with GIS and/or CAD is strongly desired
Qualifications
BS in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental policy, urban planning, natural sciences, or a related field.
2+ years of professional environmental planning experience
Must have the ability to conduct tasks independently and work in a team environment
