Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track)
Department of Environmental Studies
New York University Faculty of Arts and Science

The Department of Environmental Studies at New York University invites applications for two tenure-track assistant professor positions. The appointments will begin September 1, 2022, subject to administrative and budgetary approval.

We are interested in innovative, interdisciplinary scholars whose research is in one of the following two areas: 1. Urban Ecology; 2. Animal Welfare Science and Environmental Conservation. The positions will be housed entirely within the Department of Environmental Studies, but are part of a broader cluster of recruitment efforts in Transforming Ecologies in Urban Environments that spans the departments of Environmental Studies and Biology in this year's searches and may expand to other departments. A primary aim of the cluster is to create a network for scholars working in these areas to collaborate across NYU. More information about this cluster and the broader cluster initiative can be found here and here.

The successful applicants will be interdisciplinary scholars with an excellent record of research and publishing who are ready to contribute to the education of undergraduate and graduate students in Environmental Studies. Applicants, especially for the Animal Welfare Science and Environmental Conservation position, will also be expected to teach and advise students in the department’s Animal Studies masters program and undergraduate minor. We are particularly interested in scholars whose research will advance the mission of the Department’s Center for Environmental and Animal Protection. We welcome candidates from a broad range of social science, physical science, and policy backgrounds (e.g., environmental studies, earth science, urban studies, ecology, political science, sociology, economics, public policy, geography).

Candidates should possess a Ph.D. by August 31, 2022, have an integrative research program that demonstrates the potential to be a leader in the field of Environmental Studies, and have proven ability to be an excellent teacher. Candidates should apply with a cover letter, CV, three (3) confidential letters of recommendation, two exemplary writing samples, a research and teaching statement, and a diversity and inclusion statement. The diversity and inclusion statement offers applicants the opportunity to highlight their past, present, and future contributions to creating inclusive excellence, which is a cornerstone of the Faculty Cluster Initiative and a core commitment of the Department of Environmental Studies and New York University.  The review of applications will begin on November 20th 2021 and continue until the positions are filled. All materials should be uploaded via Interfolio: https://apply.interfolio.com/92302. For more information about the NYU Department of Environmental Studies, please visit our webpage.

The Faculty of Arts and Science at NYU is at the heart of a leading research university that spans the globe.
