Our Industrial Hygiene and Building Science team in our New Jersey office is growing! The Industrial Hygiene Technician is a multi-faceted role, working on a wide variety of commercial and industrial environmental projects to perform traditional air monitoring, water and mold sampling, lead paint investigations, mitigation oversight and management, indoor air quality (IAQ) assessments, noise surveys, OSHA monitoring, etc. As an IH Tech, you will investigate sites, diagnosing and reporting on the cause/effect of various environmental contaminants. Your focus is on the proper identification, mitigation, and resolutions of a wide range of hazards that will positively influence the health and safety of our client's environments. The successful candidate will enjoy the challenge of working on multiple projects on an effective and efficient schedule, working with senior staff, and providing field oversight on a variety of projects. The Industrial Hygienist Technician will work under the supervision of a Senior Industrial Hygienist when performing all but routine field tasks. The Senior Industrial Hygiene team will provide additional training and guidance to help expand the Technician's capabilities.Core ResponsibilitiesInvestigate interesting commercial/industrial environments including those symptomatic of "sick building syndrome"Study patterns of environmental injury and identify where the problem originates from and make recommendations to remediate/resolveDetermine potential causes of a variety of suspicious odors, damp/moisture/vapor-like sources, gather samples and analyze resultsPerform and/or assist with inspections/assessments, building material sampling, water sampling, odor investigations, and/or air monitoring related to IHBSDraft reports for review/revision by senior personnelTravel regionally up to 80% of the time; duration of travel may vary depending on project and client needs. Must be able to work evening and weekends when neededSkills & AbilitiesExcellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise verbal and written reportsAbility and willingness to use Personal Protective Equipment, including the use of respiratorsAble to participate in medical surveillance including respirator fit testing, and vaccinationsAbility to walk job sites during inspections, sometimes on uneven terrain, and carry field testing equipment (up to 30 pounds) onto job sites with regularityMS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)Familiarity with cloud-based computing products for reporting, filing, and other job responsibilities QualificationsBS in Industrial Hygiene, Biology, Environmental Science, or related field1+ years of professional environmental and/or construction inspection field experience (experience in Industrial Hygiene or environmental sampling is a plus)Safe driving recordThe following certifications/licenses are a plus: New York State Asbestos Inspector, New York State Asbestos Project Monitor, Asbestos Project Designer, Asbestos Management Planner, New York State Mold Assessor, Lead Inspector/Risk AssessorKnowledge of USEPA, NESHAP and AHERA regulations as well as New York and New Jersey regulations, and guidance documents is a plusBenefits/OpportunitiesWe offer a generous benefits package including paid time off (3 weeks vacation), medical, dental, vision, 401K match (immediate vesting), short/long term disability, life insurance, dependent care benefits, tuition reimbursement, and access to a wide variety of services, wellness programs and more.VERTEX Health and Safety Training and Protocols are BUILT around you!We take your health and safety seriously and our training, equipment and safety protocols are designed to protect our greatest asset, our employees.
