Description Position at Panasonic Corporation of North America Panasonic Energy Corporation of America SUMMARY: Administers all Safety and Environmental processes of the Integrated Management System (IMS). Interprets Safety and Environmental regulations and recommends policy and procedural changes to ensure compliance with regulations and other standards to which PECA subscribes. Develops, coordinates, and promotes employee involvement activities, events, and incentive programs related to maintaining a safe & healthy workplace and protecting the environment. Administers day to day activities with PECA department representatives to comply with regulatory and internal standards for maintaining and disposing of hazardous waste. Prepares regularity and intercompany reports for approval by the Sr. Supervisor, Administration and/or the Director, Human Resources & Administration. Ensures these reports are submitted and received by the appropriate agency in a timely manner.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOBJob Requirements:Acts independently, under general supervision, to review and interpret complex and technically specific safety and environmental regulatory guidelines. Evaluates PECA safety and environmental policies, programs, and procedures to ensure they comply to regulatory obligations and other standards to which PECA subscribes. Recommends safety and environmental process changes and improvements. Seeks guidance from external experts as necessary for clarification and guidance related to external regulations and standards.Drafts or edits safety and environmental policies, programs, procedures, and other documents as directed. Submits these documents for appropriate approvals and ensures they are updated in the appropriate document control system. Ensures changes are effectively communicated throughout PECA. Evaluates the effectiveness of change implementation, reinforces changes with employees and workers as necessary to ensure compliance, and recommends additional changes as necessary. Interprets safety and environmental policy and procedural to answer questions, provide guidance, and conduct training with employees to ensure an appropriate level competency based on their job duties. Works with employees, supervisors, and managers to ensure PECA achieves or exceeds expected safety and environmental outcomes.Updates electronic databases and to reports ensure safety and environmental data available to employees is accurate, current, and easily accessible. Decides what data to update and how quickly changes should be made in databases. Ensures all regulatory, external, and internal reports are submitted by stated deadlines. Explains data to employees, auditors, and external agencies as necessary.Develops instructional documents and presentations to effectively communicate key safety and environmental information to PECA management and employees. Schedules and delivers safety and environmental training for individuals at all levels of the organization, those performing work under PECA control, and to those outside PECA as required. Ensures training achieves expected outcomes to maintain regulatory and IMS process compliance.Attends meetings, makes presentations, and represents PECA at meetings with outside organizations. Understands critical concepts from these meetings and communicates them to PECA management as necessary. Maintains an appropriate level of personal appearance, professionalism, product and subject matter knowledge, and behavior that reflects Panasonic's Basic Business Philosophy and Code of Conduct. Acts in a manner that positively promotes the Panasonic brand within our community.Adjusts personal schedule, when necessary, to ensure support to PECA department managers to resolve unexpected events that threaten employees or business continuity. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Business Administration from a four-year college or university and 1 to 2 years related experience and/or training in Safety, Environmental and Regulatory Compliance preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:Has no direct reports. Responsible for directing others in a team environment to achieve expected outcomes. LANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business documents, professional journals, technical manuals, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, policies, procedures, work instructions correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.REASONING ABILITY:Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:Must be able to create documents, spreadsheets, and graphs using Microsoft Word and Excel programs. Must be able to learn these programs as well as various web-based software used for compliance reporting.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.WORK ENVIRONMENT: This job requires a high level of attention to detail, an ability to achieve specific outcomes by stated deadlines, and interact with internal and external customer who have demanding expectations.
