Mountainview Biological Consulting is seeking a Biologist to fill an On-Call position in and near the Inland Empire, CA. Job responsibilities include biological and compliance monitoring, nesting bird surveys, vegetation surveys, online and Excel report preparation, technical report writing, use of GPS equipment, use of Collector and Survey123, and GIS skills (making maps, desktop analysis). Potential for significant GIS and Writing component for candidates with strong GIS and Technical or Proposal Writing skills. Potential for weekly travel to alternate working locations. Biological monitoring duties require in-field decision-making, strong time management skills, as well as oral and written communication skills, diplomacy, flexibility, and a firm grasp of BMPs. California biological field experience is required and knowledge of the San Bernardino and Angeles National Forests preferred; however, additional training will be provided as needed. This position can be physically demanding at times and will require work in various working environments and conditions. Mileage is reimbursed at the current federal rate. Work available is On-Call, with the potential for a salaried position. Willingness to be mobile for work in other areas such as the Sierra and Sequoia National Forests preferred but not necessary. The following skills and certifications are highly desirable: Federal Recovery Permits, CA Scientific Collection Permits, Desert Tortoise Authorized Monitor or Biologist, Certified Botanist.Education and Training:
BS or MS in biology, ecology, wetland science, plant ecology, or similar field. Environmental Studies acceptable.Technical Requirements:
- Proven familiarity with flora and fauna of Southern and/or Central California with a strength in ornithology, botany, wildlife biology, and/or wetland ecology.
- Basic understanding of FESA, CESA, CEQA, and NEPA.
- Experience with GPS, GIS
- Proficiency with Excel, Survey123 Collector
- Current/previous USFWS 10(a)(1)(A) Permit and current/previous CDFW Scientific Collecting Permits is preferred
- Hydrology, Delineations
- Technical Reports (BRA/PPPP)
- Proposal Writing
At least 1 year of professional experience in biological surveys, biological/construction monitoring, or similar field/biological experience.Salary:
