The Environmental Health & Safety/5S Manager (EHS/5S) will plan and oversee the implementation and administration of programs, protocols, and procedures to ensure the safety, health and environment of employees, contractors, visitors and the community by applying his or her knowledge to identify and measure potential hazards. Additionally, the EHS/5S Manager promotes Safety, 5S, and World Class Manufacturing objectives as an integral part of his or her daily work through training, problem solving, establishing countermeasures and monitoring results. Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal occupational health, safety and environmental (HSE) laws, regulations and guidelines as well as with corporate HSE policies and procedures.
Associates Degree required; Bachelors Degree preferred in Environmental Health and Safety. At least five (5) years of experience in a Manufacturing Environment.
Knowledge of Continuous Improvement strategy and specialized training in Progressive 5S/Kaizen Theory and practice. Six Sigma Green Belt Certification strongly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to indirectly influence other plant personnel to follow guidelines.
Must possess great people skills in order to convey safety procedures and protocols to all levels of the organization.
Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as presentation and training skills.
Critical thinking skills using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and approaches to problems.
Develops and implements on-site environment, health and safety protocols and procedures in accordance with general corporate policies and regulatory requirements.
Trains and advises the plant employees, contractors and visitors regarding all SG EHS protocols and procedure to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Train and lead others in rapid improvement ideas on the shop floor by conducting new employee orientation including Lean Overview and Progressive 5-S Training.
Prepares and submits various SG H & S reports and provides all required Environmental data.
Works closely with all levels of the organization to assure that all risk associated with EHS are documented and appropriately ranked by priority for immediate and or scheduled action.
Investigates accidents, injuries or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventative measures. Compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data related to occupational illnesses and accidents.
Inspects, evaluates and oversees the disposition of all hazardous materials used and stored on site; monitors usage of hazardous materials and makes recommendations as appropriate.
Monitors and inspects fire, safety and environmental equipment and facilities for serviceability and compliance with established regulations, policies, and standards.
Develops and implements on-site safety programs designed to respond to individual situations and to improve overall safety conditions
Through ongoing contacts with the NA HSE Regional directors keeps current on federal, state, and local legislation, regulation changes, and changes to fire/safety codes and manuals; maintains knowledge of current and emerging issues and trends in area of specialty.
Be a 5-S Leader for the organization including performing 5-S co-op auditing, reviewing employee audits, developing counter measure and following up to ensure 5S gains are maintained and measured,
Facilitate Progressive 5-S Point Kaizens including pre-audits, scoping, planning and execution of plan to desired results. Summarize the event and report results using template.
