We are seeking a Senior Research Assistant II who is experienced, organized, and motivated individual to join a lab doing cutting edge basic and translational studies of diabetes and its complications. The successful candidate should have a background in physiology, metabolism, molecular biology, cell biology, or ideally a combination of these areas.

Work in the lab uses cell biological, genetic, biochemical, and physiological approaches to elucidate mechanisms through which abnormal levels of metabolites alter cell physiology and lead to organ damage. Current areas of focus include non-canonical functions of small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs), regulated RNA degradation, and translational regulation in response to metabolic stress. Our goal is to discover fundamental mechanisms of metabolic stress responses and to translate our findings in ways that inform development of approaches to improve the lives of patients with metabolic diseases.

Responsibilities:

General laboratory procedures and laboratory management, including assisting in the maintenance of laboratory equipment, ordering supplies, and orientation and training of new personnel.
Maintain and organize lab records and reagent storage.
Regularly communicate with the Joslin Safety Office to ensure compliance with all Safety protocols and COMS (Committee on Microbiological Safety) registrations.
Design, performs and analyzes experiments in collaboration with the Principal Investigator. Reports on data in laboratory meetings.
Adept at biochemical assays and manipulation of DNA, RNA and proteins.
Adept at cell culture and cell based assays
Experience and comfort in handling mice and maintenance of transgenic animal colonies, including genotyping and tissue collection.
Maintain a clearly written and organized experimental electronic notebook.
Work collaboratively with others in the coordination of various projects.
Effectively organize work schedule to accomplish the completion of multiple tasks or multiple experimental procedures.

Qualifications:
B.S./B.A. in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry
Master's Degree or higher preferred
Minimum 5 years of demonstrated practical experience with relevant laboratory methods
Experience with cell culture and molecular biology techniques
Experience handling mice and maintaining genetically modified mouse lines
Attention to detail and ability to concentrate on tasks
Outstanding organizational skills
The ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other members of the team
Good communication skills (written and verbal)
