About the Job

Dudek is seeking an entrepreneurial and motivated practice builder to lead our Fisheries and Aquatic Biology practice. The successful candidate will be skilled in preparing and executing business development efforts as well as working collaboratively with other Dudek practice builders and project managers to identify potential opportunities for cross-selling and marketing strategies for fisheries and aquatic biology services.

The practice leader will also be responsible for interfacing with regulatory agencies on behalf of clients, developing/maintaining positive working relationships with existing clients and Dudek contractors, and training/mentoring junior staff. This leader will also be responsible for oversight and participation in the preparation of technical reports, regulatory permit applications, and other documentation efforts, and will provide senior review of documents. This individual may lead aquatic surveys and/or work with other existing Dudek fisheries technical staff leaders tasked with designing and executing fisheries and aquatic biology studies.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in fisheries, wildlife biology, ecology, or related natural resources field.
  • 10+ years of professional biological/environmental consulting experience.
  • Experience working with a variety of public and private sector clients, and in developing and implementing business development strategies related to fisheries and aquatic biology consulting work.
  • Professional credibility and work experience with state and federal resource agency staff including the National Marine Fisheries Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the State Water Resources Control Board.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with special-status inland fish and/or other aquatic biology species taxonomy, natural history, and ecology, and with river, stream, pond, and lake ecosystems, associated with western U.S. bioregions.
  • Experience working with special-status inland fish and/or other aquatic biology species taxonomy, natural history, and ecology, and with river, stream, pond, and lake ecosystems, associated with western U.S. bioregions.
  • Educational background in fisheries and/or aquatic biology.
  • Possession of a CDFW Scientific Collecting Permit, CDFW MOU, and/or USFWS 10A take permit for handling threatened or endangered aquatic wildlife species, (ie, California tiger salamander, California red-legged frog, and state/federally-listed fish species).
  • Experience conducting presence/absence surveys, habitat assessments and characterizations, fish passage assessments, animal salvage and relocation operations, impact assessments, and other technical studies for special-status aquatic species including inland and anadromous fish species in a variety of habitats and locations.
  • Membership with or active in resource-related professional organizations such as American Fisheries Society, American Institute of Fishery Research Biologists, The Wildlife Society, and the Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles.
