Position Summary: The Director of Health, Safety & Environment is responsible for enhancing the safety culture of the company through development, support, deployment, monitoring, and review of all health and safety programs and initiatives. This key leadership position will ensure organizational policy and procedural compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulatory standards and drives company adherence to those policies. This role actively pursues continuous improvement opportunities throughout the organization, placing focus on reducing safety risks and workplace accidents.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Creates, modifies, implements, and maintains standardized safety policies and procedures and ensures all practices are compliant with federal, state, and local laws
  • Acts as an advisor to management and personnel to reinforce safety policy adherence
  • Reviews and understands all safety-related government regulations to align education and compliance initiatives
  • Audits all company worksites (offices and warehouses) to improve workplace environment and safety practices
  • Compiles safety statistics, accident reports, and safety audit results to present to operations management, safety coordinators, and executive management to develop improvement solutions
  • Responsible for administration of Worker's Compensation cases including claims management, monitoring of open claim, communication with doctors, communication with insurance carriers, and management of the return-to-work program
  • Prepares relevant materials and evidence for use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations
  • Develops, implements, and tracks ongoing and annual safety training through Learning Management System
  • Monitors New Employee Safety Orientation Training Program
  • Represents NIM in community and industry safety groups and programs
  • Updates and adds safety related content to the company intranet
  • Collaborates with Human Resources and Performance Improvement in areas of shared responsibility
  • Participates in developing department and divisional goals, objectives, and systems
  • Performs other related duties as required

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of safety management experience, OR
  • Any similar combination of education and experience
  • 3-5 years in Warehousing/Material Handling/Manufacturing/Fabrication Safety

Job Competencies:
  • Travel required
  • Intermediate Excel and Word skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read, understand, and analyze government regulations, write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills and presentation abilities
  • Proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar a must
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, along with other safety-related state and federal agencies
  • Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and objectivity
