Summary: American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management New Mexico State Office is seeking GIS Candidates for 52 weeks to assist BLM field offices with various GIS projects including updating and verifying attributes and spatial data, collecting data, digitizing information, completing geospatial analysis and making maps. This opportunity is intended for enthusiastic professionals with a background in Geography, GIS, Natural Resource Management or a closely related field, with a deep interest in jointly advancing their career goals and the stewardship of natural resources through purposeful fieldwork and research.

In addition to the RPFO location, other appointments to BLM offices in New Mexico or Oklahoma may be made.
Project Background and Objectives: The successful candidate(s) will be brought on for 52 weeks to work closely with field office staff on the following types of projects: updating attributes and spatial data collected through ArcGIS Field Apps (ex. Sign Inventory), collecting data in the field (ex: wilderness inventory, range improvements), completing project specific data analysis/map development (NEPA projects/Resource Management Plan) and digitizing federal geospatial information into enterprise geodatabases.
Essential Responsibilities and Functions:
* Assist field office staff in creating, editing, and attributing geospatial data that represents current Federal data.
* Assist with lands records research, general data cleanup/quality control, and maintenance of the BLM-NM/OK/KS/TX corporate database.
* Assist with the identification of opportunities for landscape-level mitigation, for example, reviewing adjacent area plans for inconsistencies.
* Review existing resource management plans, and existing digital data, to identify gaps in geospatial datasets.
* Digitize spatial products to represent RMP or other plans where data gaps exist.
* Assist with transportation research, general data cleanup/quality control, and maintenance of the Ground Transportation Linear Features (GTLF) dataset and Travel Management Plan (TTMP).
* Complete other geospatial (GIS) projects as assigned.

Compensation: $600 per week living allowance (Stipend) to cover Housing, Food, and incidentals. $100 per week housing reimbursement
Typical workweek will be 8-10 hours/day, 4-5 days/week. Housing is not provided.

Position Description: The candidate will be brought on for 52 weeks to work closely with field office staff in three primary project areas, updating attributes and spatial data collected through ArcGIS Field Apps (ex. Sign Inventory), collecting data in the field (ex: wilderness inventory, range improvements), and project specific data analysis/ map development (NEPA projects/Resource Management Plan (RMP)).
For the updating attributes and spatial data, the selected candidate will work to verify and correct data that has already been collected and incorporated into the GIS system. Standard Operating Procedures, process workflow, and training materials, have already been developed and documented for Sign Inventory, to minimize the amount of time needed to bring the candidates on as efficient contributors to the project. There are currently 700+ Sign Inventory points that need to be quality checked.
For the collecting data in the field aspect of this position, the selected candidate will work with resource specialists to identify data gaps that require on the ground GPS collection. Candidates will work to collect this data in the field and transfer data to GIS for further analysis.
For the project specific data analysis/map development, the selected candidate will work on the verification and spatial analysis for a specific project or plan. This could include Travel Management Plans (TMP), Resource Management Plan (RMP) or National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) projects within the BLM organization.
Qualifications: Applicants should have degree in natural resource management, geography, environmental policy, geographic information science (GIS), or a related field. Candidates with Master's Degrees and an interest in a career in public lands management are strongly encouraged to apply. Resumes and cover letters must show detailed key project experiences.
* Members must be US citizen or Permanent Resident, as required to comply with U.S. government contracts.
* Members must be 18-30 (Applicants between 31 and 35 may be considered based on veteran status)
* Ability and willingness to undergo a federal criminal background check is required.
* Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record with ability to provide required documentation; (Driving record checks will be completed during on-boarding process. (Members must be 21+ to drive ACE/Agency vehicles)
* Ability to drive an [Agency or ACE] vehicle is required for this position. ACE will conduct a driving record check upon on-boarding and member must be cleared by ACE to drive.
* Applicants must pass a DOI security background check and should possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
* Minimum 1 year of experience in a related field or specific duty as outlined above.
* Applicant must have strong written and oral skills and be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite and ArcGIS.
* Applicants should demonstrate strong organizational skills, have experience working as part of a team, be able to work well with others in a professional setting, and be self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision after the initial training period.
* An understanding of federal land resource management policies, including NEPA.
* Master's degree or completing post graduate education in one of the academic fields listed above.
* Teamwork oriented with clear, direct communication and interpersonal skills.
