What you will be doing:

This position provides technical guidance and consultation in the implementation and maintenance of the VacTrAK IIS database for health care providers, program managers, and other staff and stakeholders. Assists in analyzing, recommending, testing, implementing, and evaluating new or modified informatics solutions and data structures that support the program in the statewide delivery, administration, and management of services. Conducts site reviews to educate, consult, and provide technical assistance regarding the use of information management systems.

The mission of the Division of Public Health is to protect and promote the health of Alaskans. The Section of Epidemiology keeps Alaskans safe from communicable diseases; injuries; as well as environmental, occupational, and other health hazards.

The Alaska Immunization Program's mission is to prevent and control vaccine preventable disease by:

* Providing vaccines to health care providers at no charge;
* Providing an immunization information system for use by health care providers and schools to maintain consolidated immunization records for Alaskans of all ages;
* Ensuring school and childcare compliance with immunization regulations;
* Providing immunization education and training for health care providers and the general public;
* Coordinating surveillance and control efforts for vaccine preventable diseases; and
* Supporting efforts to increase vaccinations for all Alaskans

Who we are looking for:

To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following core competencies:

* Analysis and Assessment: Uses information technology in accessing, collecting, analyzing, maintaining, and disseminating data and information.
* Database Administration: Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools for automating, developing, implementing, or administering database systems.
* Database Management Systems: Knowledge of the uses of database management systems and software to control the organization, storage, retrieval, security, and integrity of data.
* Information Assurance: Knowledge of methods and procedures to protect information systems and data by ensuring their availability, authentication, confidentiality, and integrity.
* Public Health: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, methods, and tools associated with protecting and improving the health of people and their communities, including promoting healthy lifestyles, preventing, and responding to infectious diseases.?

Minimum Qualifications

A master's degree from an accredited college in public health, health administration, nursing, epidemiology, health sciences, health education, community health, emergency medical services, psychology, the social sciences, social work, computer sciences, biostatistics/statistics, business management, public administration, operations management, education, the biological sciences, the physical sciences, or a closely related field.

AND

Two years of any combination of experience administering or providing specialized health care or public health services, programs, and/or health care information management systems support that provides the appropriate level of knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, and theory of the relevant health specialty and/or operational area(s) associated with the position to be filled. Service as an Analyst/Programmer, Research Analyst, or similar job class may qualify if the work performed was specifically related to the collection, analysis, and maintenance of data concerning conditions of public health importance, such as incidence/prevalence of disease or injuries, social risk factors, behavioral risk factors, environmental risk factors, and/or demographic characteristics. The required work experience may also include graduate level work conducting/assisting in specialized scientific research studies related to public health.

OR

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college in public health, health administration, nursing, epidemiology, health sciences, health education, community health, emergency medical services, psychology, the social sciences, social work, computer sciences, biostatistics/statistics, business management, public administration, operations management, education, the biological sciences, the physical sciences, or a closely related field.

AND

Four years of any combination of experience administering or providing specialized health care or public health services, programs, and/or health care information management systems support that provides the appropriate level of knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, and theory of the relevant health specialty and/or operational area(s) associated with the position to be filled. Many positions may require expertise in a particular health specialty field. Recruitment and selection for these positions will be from among only those candidates who have the appropriate background and experience relevant to the specialty field defined in the predominant responsibilities of the position. The specialty areas include, but are not exclusively limited to: maternal, child, adolescent, and/or men's and women's health; birth defects; early childhood development and disabilities; emergency medical services and care; cardiopulmonary health; obesity and stroke prevention and mitigation; neurological development and disease; genetics and congenital diseases; audiology; human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/sexually transmitted disease (STD) surveillance, prevention, and control; tobacco, alcohol, and narcotics prevention and mitigation; health impact assessments; domestic violence and traumatic injury surveillance, prevention, and control; chronic disease and epidemiological surveillance and control; and related biostatistics.

Some positions require a security clearance. The essential functions of some positions may involve exposure to infectious disease and/or biohazards.

The social sciences include anthropology, economics, sociology, history, political science, geography, psychology, and demography. The biological sciences include botany, biology, entomology, ecology, forestry, and zoology. The physical sciences include chemistry, physics, astronomy, geology, and soil science.
