Responsibilities:

Staff Geologist/Engineer/Environmental Scientist I or II

Position Summary

VERTEX is searching for a staff level geologist, engineer, or environmental scientist with experience in Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), asbestos surveys, and/or Property Condition Assessments (PCAs). Ideal candidates will have experience in at least one these disciplines with a desire and ability to develop expertise in the other areas.

The staff position works with the senior level and project staff assigned to individual projects and provides high quality reports by ensuring that reports are completed to industry and VERTEX standards. This position consists of a split between office and field duties. Field duties include site walks, sample collection, and data collection and evaluation. Office work includes project coordination, data management, report writing.

Duties and Responsibilities

Perform Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) in accordance with ASTM Phase I standards.

Conduct Property Condition Assessments (PCA) of various property types. You will perform independent research of local, state, and federal resources; interview persons familiar with the property and conduct historical research to compile the information required for PCA reports in accordance with ASTM standards and client-specific scopes of work.

Complete ESA and PCA reports including all fieldwork, data compilation and report preparation each week, depending on the scope of work and terms of employment.

Perform asbestos surveys of commercial buildings in accordance with EPA, NESHAPs and local requirements. Conduct asbestos abatement air monitoring and clearance sampling on asbestos abatement projects.

Conduct and supervise Phase II Environmental Site Assessments and soil and ground water investigation and remediation projects in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Interact with current clients and assist in business development and preparation of proposals for new projects.

Interact and develop relationships with regulatory agencies that can be leveraged for our client's benefit.

Requirements

Undergraduate degree in engineering, geology, environmental science or related field.

At least 2 years of relevant experience in Phase I/II ESAs, asbestos surveys and abatement oversight, and/or PCAs.

Ability to independently complete field work and report preparation with senior oversight.

Understanding of local environmental regulations and cleanup standards;

40-hour OSHA training.

High-energy, self-motivated.

Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.

Knowledge of computer operations and standard software packages (word processing, spreadsheets, Adobe) required.

AHERA Accreditations including Asbestos Inspector, Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor, and Asbestos Air Monitor (NIOSH 582) a plus.

OSHA 10 or 30-Hour training is preferred, training provided if necessary.

Frequent field work and travel will be required. A valid driver's license and clean driving record is required.

Physical Requirements

Walk job sites during inspections, sometimes on uneven terrain.

Carry field testing equipment (up to 30 pounds) onto job sites with regularity.
