Summary of Major Responsibilities:

The Manager, Environmental Health and Safety manages, develops, administers and implements programs designed to reduce risks and minimize losses associated with employee safety, industrial hygiene, fire protection, environmental issues, and occupational health in order to achieve an injury free work environment. This role ensures compliance with all Corporate, Laboratory, local, state and federal regulations pertaining to Environmental, Health and Safety. The Manager, Environment Health and Safety will lead Safety Committee meetings, report various key performance metrics, oversee waste management, develop corrective actions, and interface with all internal Departments as well as external professionals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Works with department leads, managers, supervisors, and individual employees to develop and implement sustainable safety and environmental efforts to instill a culture of EHS compliance and best practices.

Engages stakeholders appropriately to develop programs, drive communication and awareness, and provide training.

Oversees appropriate corrective action is taken where health and safety hazards exist. Develops alternatives for managing and minimizing these risks.

Assures evaluation, revisions and maintenance of existing policies and procedures in areas of accountability.

Proactively seeks industry best practices, knowledge, and trends that are relevant and applicable to Exact Sciences' environments.

Maintains records relating to all facets of safety and environmental systems including Safety Data Sheets (SDSs), OSHA logs, training programs, etc.

Ensure compliance to Globally Harmonized System (GHS) standards for Exact Sciences' products.

Recommend improvements & assist members of the management team in streamlining internal processes that impact the organization's ability to provide a safe working environment.

Oversees the waste disposal and management of chemical and hazardous waste.

Develops and teaches training programs for employees in areas such as compliance, hazardous material (Hazmat) handling, emergency response, industrial hygiene, occupational safety and life safety - First aide/AED/CPR, fire extinguisher training, motorized vehicle training (industrial truck and forklift).

Provides guidance and support of DOT and IATA requirements for product shipment both domestic and international.

Acts as administrative liaison for all environmental, occupational safety and health regulatory agency inspections and surveys, including EPA, OSHA, and the State Fire Marshall. Communicates strategies, priorities, and recommends corrective actions to leadership, department managers, and employees.

Provides Leaders, Managers, and Supervisors with accurate, useful and timely support for employee health activities and environmental issues.

Conducts incident investigations and develops corrective actions.

Leads injury care and return to work program, manages claims with providers and employees.

Serves as the expert on all safety, environmental and health issues on projects, new equipment installations, product/supply changes, etc.

Recognizes and responds to changing trends, market conditions, regulatory legislation, etc., evaluates and integrates the information to define potential impact.

Builds and fosters a safety culture among all site employees. Includes oversight of Risk Registers and Job Hazard Analysis for all functional areas as well as driving Near Miss reporting.

Ensure regulatory compliance of all environmental permits and processes.

Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 75% of a typical working day.

Ability to work seated for approximately 50% of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for approximately 50% of a typical working day.

Ability to lift up to 40 pounds for approximately 5% of a typical working day.

Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.

May be exposed to hazardous materials, tissue specimens, and instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation.

Ability and means to frequently travel between Madison locations.

Ability to travel 10% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene, environmental science, occupational safety or a field as outlined in the essential duties.

6+ years of experience managing a safety program in a field as outlined in the essential duties.

Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of program development and maintenance, auditing and monitoring, adherence to regulatory or accreditation requirements, and delivering complex multi-directional communications required.

Strong knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations.

Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with one or more of the following regulations strongly preferred: FDA, CLIA, and CAP.

Experience in medical device technology or related field.

Experience working under FDA 21 cfr 820 regulations and ISO13485 guidelines.

CSP, CHMM, or CIH certification(s) preferred.

Experience with one or more of the following regulations strongly preferred: FDA, CLIA, and CAP.
