The Climate Director will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of AmeriCorps programming at Reading & Math, Inc. (RMI) that is focused on combatting climate change. The current program includes an initiative focused on community forestry and an initiative focused on home energy. The Climate Director will be responsible for further developing these initiatives, while also focusing on designing new initiatives where AmeriCorps members can make a meaningful difference. This position has no supervisory responsibility.
Climate Content Expertise. Provide content expertise in climate change to lead and advise in the development and implementation of AmeriCorps programming at RMI focused on climate change, including:Create presentations about the program and present to groups as requested
Advise the research and development team in evaluating the programs
Understand and be up to date on climate issues and initiatives in Minnesota
Network and collaborate with other climate-based AmeriCorps programs and other climate-based agencies throughout Minnesota
Program Design and Development. Working in collaboration with the Research and Evaluation team at ServeMinnesota, design the AmeriCorps program model(s) that address climate change; including:Articulate the logic model (need, inputs, member activities, outputs, and outcomes)
Clearly define the member activities that will lead to a measurable and meaningful impact
Position the program to be scalable by applying research and best practice for scaling
Embed equity into the design and implementation of the program
Connect key performance indicators (KPIs) to National Performance Measures as articulated by AmeriCorps, as applicable
Stakeholder and Site PartnershipsCultivate site partnerships, including existing sites and new potential sites. Provide leadership in focusing site partnerships in serving historically marginalized communities with the highest needs.
Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders who have a vested interest in our work; present information about the program(s) and solicit feedback for continuous improvement
TrainingArticulate the knowledge and skills members and sites must possess to successfully implement the program
Define the core competencies for training
Develop the training scope and sequence for site supervisors and members for each climate initiative
Evaluate the effectiveness of training and engage in a continuous improvement cycle
Engage consultants, as needed, to support training design and/or delivery
In collaboration with ServeMinnesota, support fundraising: legislative visits, grant writing and reporting as needed and requested.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in the field
5-8 years of experience working in the environmental/climate change sector
Well-networked within groups and communities focusing on climate change issues in Minnesota
Demonstrated ability to form partnerships and relationships within the climate change sector
Experience in program development and management of direct service programs
Strong written and oral communication skills
Experience serving or working with AmeriCorps programming preferred
