Overview:
Reporting to the Director of Environmental, Health and Safety, the Deputy Director of Environmental, Health and Safety is responsible for the development, improvement, implementation, and management of Electric Boat's Environmental, Health and Safety programs across all EB locations. The selected candidate in this role will review, evaluate, and analyze work environments and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents or ergonomic factors. In this role the selected candidate will also responsible for noise atmosphere ventilation and asbestos management. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing workplace accident investigations with a focus on maximizing learning and preventing future issues. In this role the selected candidate must work closely with the Director of Environmental, Health and Safety, and be able to collaborate with internal stakeholders such as all levels of Operations, the Medical Directors and Security. As the deputy director the successful candidate must be able to build trust and influence peers and senior leadership on corrective actions and policy adherence. Knowledge of OSHA policies and procedures as well as adherence to health and safety regulations is an important aspect of this role.
In addition to the above the job responsibilities also include:
Leading a diverse team of Environmental, Health and Safety professionals across multiple sites
Conduct inspections and enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety employees and visitors OSHA requirement record keeping
Develop an overall strategy of continuous improvement for health and safety initiatives to minimize work process risk, raise safety awareness and improve safety practices
Aid in the well-being of employees/visitors and ensure workplace compliance with local state and federal health regulations
Champion for Total Safety Culture Roadmap and Team
Facilitate a work environment that supports a safe and healthy culture
Provide technical expertise to all EB locations and facilities on regulatory compliance matters
Oversee the supervision of safety personnel engaged in the evaluation of work environments, safety demonstrations, standardized instruction, specialized training, safety inspections and related functions
Maintain Electric Boat's Safety Management System certification
Serve as a company representative when interfacing with regulators, state and federal agencies and customer representative for Safety matters
Interface with Senior Management to ensure that safety culture is promulgated throughout the Electric Boat community
Designing and enforcing health and safety regulations
Qualifications:
Requirements:
10 years of EB or related shipyard Experience
5 years of increasing leadership responsibility and oversight
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in engineering safety, engineering management, industrial safety, or a related technical field
Extensive experience and knowledge of safety, health, and industrial hygiene, along with an established track record of success is required
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary when working with employees to ensure the safest, most efficient work setting possible.
