Job Description

Ideal candidate need to be motivated by Science and interested in biomedical research. Will work closely Dr. Alice Kamphorst and other scientists with great opportunity for one-on-one mentorship. The research program focuses on T cells, with emphasis on cancer immunology. Candidate must be detail-oriented and highly motivated to learn. Should have the ability to work independently as well as in group. Must possess excellent organizational, record-keeping, analytical and communication skills. Willingness to work with mice (previous experience would be great) and handle BSL2 viruses such as lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus after appropriate training. Will be trained to perform basic tissue culture, virology and molecular biology techniques (e.g. plaque assay, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR). Will assist in processing blood and tissues from mice or humans and perform experiments using flow cytometry and other techniques as required. Will perform general laboratory duties as assigned. Will assist in ordering laboratory supplies and general organization of the lab. With experience, under limited supervision will conduct experiments using advanced techniques specific to the research project. Expected to assist in analysis and review of experimental data for publication and presentation. Communicates ideas, problems, suggestions, and messages in a timely and effective manner. Seeks guidance as necessary and asks appropriate questions when in doubt. 2 year minimum commitment strongly preferred.
  • Conducts routine and standardized experiments using appropriate research techniques specific to subject matter of the research project.
  • Analyzes and assists in interpreting laboratory results of moderate complexity.
  • Performs assays to support research studies.
  • Maintains laboratory environment and assists in the upkeep of appropriate inventory; may include ordering of supplies.
  • Logs and tests samples; prepares and submits laboratory materials and specimens for shipment.
  • Assists in the collection, analysis and review of experimental data for publication and presentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in science or related field required.
  • Exposure to research environment, working on immunology, molecular biology or related field is preferred.
