Research Associate 2, Discovery Biology at Pliant Therapeutics

Pliant Therapeutics is a public, clinical stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of novel therapies for fibrotic diseases. Founded by Third Rock Ventures with world-renowned academic thought leaders, Pliant is raising the bar to meet the unmet medical needs of physicians, patients and families impacted by fibrotic disease. The Company's focus is on mechanism-based intervention in the fibrotic process using small molecules. The Company's lead product candidate, PLN-74809, is an oral, small molecule selective inhibitor of the αvβ1 and αvβ6 integrins that play a key role in multiple fibrotic pathways. PLN-74809 has received Orphan Drug Designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in both idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), and are currently in Phase 2a clinical trials for these indications. Pliant's second product candidate, PLN-1474, is an oral, small molecule selective inhibitor of the αvβ1 integrin, in development as a potential treatment forlate-stage liver fibrosis under a partnership with Novartis. The Company also has discovery and development programs in oncology and muscular dystrophies. Immediate openings are available for an RA II with experience in the Discovery Biology area. This individual will join a team focused on the discovery and advancement of new drug candidates and disease biomarkers. The primary responsibility of this position will be in vitro assays development and execution. Written reporting to Pliant of study outcomes from executed protocols will be required.

  • Independently execute assigned tasks following appropriate laboratory/technical procedures.
  • Coordinate studies, troubleshoot experiments and suggest improvements to the supervisor.
  • Evaluate and report experimental results to supervisor and colleagues regularly with particular attention to data quality and reproducibility.
  • Prepare written reports of executed studies.

  • BS/MS in relevant areas (biology, biochemistry, chemistry, molecular biology, etc.) is required, and 2 years of work experience is required.
  • Competency in standard molecular biology techniques, such as ELISA, nucleic acid extraction, real-time PCR, western blot, and transfection methods
  • Working knowledge of immune-based in vitro assays, flow cytometry, and data analysis/visualization software is preferred
  • Ability to evaluate and clearly communicate results. The ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently are required for this position.
