Capabilities to evaluate data with knowledge of statistics used for quality control and environmental compliance a requirement. This position will also be responsible to review, evaluate, and analyze work environments and design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent potential environmental noncompliance. Duties will include, but not be limited to: Assess and evaluate plant conditions for compliance, conduct or manage inspections and enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing environmental rules.

Successful candidates will possess the ability to work with individuals from varied backgrounds, skills, and education levels to complete projects in an efficient and organized manner.

Responsibilities

  • Collect environmental NPDES samples and preserve and package them correctly for shipment.
  • Replace and ship the HIVOL air sampling monitor filters.
  • Assist in conducting weekly and monthly plant air sampling and maintain a data base for ambient air surveillance.
  • Conduct permit required sampling for TCLP on pre-treated slag, scrubber sludge, and waste water filter cake and post treatment slag.
  • Conduct sampling for TCLP as directed or as per SWMU guidelines.
  • Carry out alloy analysis and direct the alloying of kettles to yield alloys as required by the customer.
  • Carry out daily slag analysis and develop daily slag ternary systems.
  • Conduct daily cooling water hardness tests and advise management accordingly.
  • Work with a spectrometer and wet chemistry testing equipment
  • Assist in the development of written procedures and conduct environmental assessments.
  • Complete, maintain, audit and file all related paperwork and inspection forms for RCRA Part B, Title V and NPDES Permits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to perform analysis as directed using Inductive Coupled Plasma (ICP), Atomic absorption, Emission Spectroscopy, and general wet chemistry
  • Participate in lean Kaizen events.


Qualifications

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • BS degree preferred, in science, chemistry, or laboratory technology
  • 3-5 years environmental experience
  • Experience with analytical chemistry in an industrial environment preferred
  • Ability to work independently in general wet chemistry and laboratory
  • Assist in the development of written procedures and conduct environmental assessments
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA Regulations
  • Knowledge of proper protocol for exposure monitoring
  • Interact professionally with auditors, inspectors and other government agencies regarding upcoming, in process, and past inspections and reports
  • Complete, maintain, audit and file all related paperwork and inspection forms for RCRA Part B Permit
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Proficient with MS Office Products (Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook, and Word)

LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be frequently exposed to fumes, dust, airborne particles, and extreme heat and humidity.
  • While much work will be performed in an office setting, significant time will be required in the manufacturing facility, where additional exposure is likely.
  • Noise levels in the manufacturing facility are usually high.
  • All employees are required to wear full face respirators inside the manufacturing facility.
  • Qualified candidates must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, and climb with minimal effort.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
