OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE

The Cell Engager team of the Oncology DDU is seeking a highly motivated Associate with demonstrated research skills in immuno-oncology and or immune cell biology. The successful candidate must have a strong foundation in T cell immunity and cancer. The candidate will apply immunological MOAs to characterize and develop multispecific cell engager molecules aligned with COBRA platform using in vivo and exvivo methodologies as an integral member of the Cell Engager and broader drug discovery unit. The interested candidate must have extensive hands on experience with various immunological and cancer biology techniques. As a key member of the team, the candidate will be responsible for new idea generation, assessing therapeutic concepts and strategy of various immune engager molecules and advancing novel research molecues towards development candidates and IND. The position will require the individual to be hands-on. The individual will collaborate and demonstrate effective communication and documentation of results with key stakeholders in GB, DSRE, DMPK, Translational teams. Ideal applicant will be team-oriented, possess excellent communication and organizational skills.

ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Design and conduct in vivo models and exvivo functional assays to assess therapeutic potential of new COBRA designs
  • Engage in new idea generation aligned with both innate and adaptive immune engager mechanisms in cancer
  • Immunophenotyping and gene profiling experiments using a variety of techniques including but not limited to mRNA profiling, multicolor flow cytometry etc.
  • Serve as a pharmacology lead on a project from concept through validation in collaboration with key stakeholders in supporting functional groups and advancing lead molecules
  • Co-ordinates inivivo studies with CROs as required and establishes new protocols where necessary
  • Utilize immune readouts such FACS based immunophenotyping, T cell activation assays, cytokine profiling, luciferase reporter assays that can aid with translational biomarker strategy
  • Develop highly sensitive pharmacokinetic (PK) assays for preclinical and clinical studies working closely with DMPK
  • Executes experiments with minimum supervision and delivers comprehensive high quality data sets to enable decision making
  • Identify state of the art experimental protocols and relevant IO models and assays
  • Keeps up with published literature centered around cancer targets and IO therapies relevant to the Takeda's CE strategy
  • Identifies, plans and executes well defined scientific projects and communicates program strategy and timelines to management.
  • Utilizes relevant information, technology and resources, contributing to complex team problem resolution and objectives
  • Ability to multi-task effectively and prioritize workload
  • Interprets results of complex experiments
  • Prepares and presents comprehensive technical or project reports and formal presentations / posters to full range of internal/external audiences
  • Maintain laboratory notebooks and keep in compliance with Takeda policies

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
  • PhD or Postdoc with 0-2 yrs, MS with 6+ BS with 8+ years experience (industry experience preferred), Cellular Immunology, Immuno-oncology, T cell biology, bio-engineering.
  • Current knowledge of oncology research, drug discovery and development with an emphasis on immune cell activation, checkpoint blockade, as well as markers for anti-tumor efficacy
  • Experience in mouse tumor model systems (syngeneic, xenograft and/or PDXs) is required
  • Experience with humanized mouse models is a plus.
  • Experience with biologics is preferred (Antibodies, ADCs, Cell therapies etc)
  • Hands -on basic experience with multi-color flow cytometry, molecular biology techniques (PCR, Gibson assembly, cloning etc), ELISA, MSD and other standard cell based and non-cell based biochemical assays
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and primary cells with best practices in tissue culture is required
  • Experience with cell engineering and gene editing is preferred
  • Use of scientific databases and application for data management and data analysis (Graph Pad Prism, Soft Max Pro, Office 365, FlowJo etc)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
  • Excellent team player with a can-do attitude with an ability to thrive in a dynamic "biotech- like" environment and work in cross-functional project teams
  • Innovative and critical thinking
  • Self-motivated, collaborative with excellent time management and organizational skills
