Role Purpose

As the Pathology Biology & Integrated Analytics Sub-Chapter lead, you will be a member of the Diagnostics Solutions Research & Development Reagent Research and Design Team (RRD).

In this position, you will be the leading figure and key point of contact for Roche Diagnostics' capabilities in Pathology Biology & Integrated Analytics Sub-Chapter lead. You will improve the Pathology Biology & Integrated Analytics overarching expertise based on current and upcoming needs to deliver on network priorities (e.g. upcoming portfolio investments with new technology skills needed).

As the Pathology Biology & Integrated Analytics Sub-Chapter lead, you will be the key enabler to maintain and advance scientific skill profile and the technological standard and technologies of the subchapter in terms of the Center of Excellence for immunohistochemistry antibody and early assay design solutions, methods, processes and products at a globally leading level.

You will be responsible for the development of antibody reagents following all applicable quality standards and guidelines for RDS R&D development teams and Roche pharma teams.

You will be responsible for developing the capabilities of expert teams dedicated to complex antibody technologies and development projects. You will be responsible for a close interaction with Lifecycles and ensuring contract based efforts are being staffed and prioritized.

You will be ensuring the smooth transfer of antibody based reagents and processes developed in the Subchapter to Global Operations and Assay Development teams in close coordination with the interface partners.

As a line manager, you will be responsible for designing and optimizing team members' personal professional journey and coaching your direct reports as well as promoting fluidity of Sub-Chapter members capabilities to easily support different business and research needs across Networks.

You have a direct impact on the portfolio of the Tissue CA in the field of antibody reagent design solutions. You will interact with the R&D network & chapter area teams, global functions (Ops, Quality and Regulatory), Customer Areas Project Leads, Pharma and external partners.

These interactions are intended to support bringing the right capabilities and expertise to the efforts & squads to deliver across Networks' priorities (who organize around business value). You will play a key role in crafting and implementing key aspects of Pathology Biology & Integrated Analytics's mid- to long-term strategy and ultimately contribute to the overall Roche Diagnostics Vision.

You will be responsible to...

Ensure that Roche Diagnostics' capabilities in Pathology Biology & Integrated Analytics thrive:

Leverage a consolidated view of the Sub-Chapter's capabilities to represent the most specialized expertise in the field of antibody development for IHC towards Business and other Functions

Define the short and long term capability needs for the Sub-Chapter to deliver on the Function's and Network's strategy, and execute on it, ultimately advancing the Function's expertise and helping our Customer Areas and Life-Cycle Teams (LCTs) to achieve their business objectives

Establish and further develop best practices and thought leadership for all aspects pertaining to Pathology Biology & Integrated Analytics; exemplify the principle of proactive and continuous improvement

Maintain and develop all assets and partnerships related to Pathology Biology & Integrated Analytics that are owned by Roche Diagnostics

Further development of these assets in line with the strategic orientation of the various global project partners within Roche, thus giving them a competitive advantage

Enable delivery of best in class solutions and IHC antibody technology roadmaps including development processes (strategic impact)

Promote fluidity of Sub-Chapter and the larger Chapter members' capabilities (as needed) to easily support different business needs across Networks

Be an active coach and mentor to members of the team to help them grow and progress in their career

Nurture and develop an empowered, knowledgeable, effective and efficient group of subject matter experts (SMEs) within the Sub-Chapter with the capabilities to support Roche Diagnostics' efforts with best-in-class expertise

Ensure that personal professional development is a priority in assignments of Chapter members and spread awareness for this

Design and promote personal professional journey paths within the Sub-Chapter, enabling the fluidity of resources intended by our New Ways of Working

Attract talents and be an active coach and mentor for Subchapter members to help them grow and progress in their career

Support access to the right resources
  • Close alignment with respective subchapters such as Antibody Development, Antigen Design & rec. Protein Expression, Protein Chemistry and Special Chemistry, to ensure one seamless and efficient approach for the development of biological reagent solutions
  • Horizontal (Sub)chapters, CA network (Sub)chapters are key R&D internal partners
  • Projects for DSR and Pharma are coordinated and managed efficiently, and internal customers also have access to the Subchapters entire know-how in the sense of a consultancy service

What else do you have in your toolbox:
  • High degree of subject matter expertise:
    • PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biotechnology or equivalent expertise gathered by > 6 years of SME experience
    • min. 5 years of experience in R&D Diagnostics and leadership, international project and collaboration management
    • deep experience and domain knowledge in antibody development and design
    • Sound knowledge in protein chemistry and molecular biology
    • Expertise in assay concepts for IVD systems and reagent strategies for diagnostics, in particular for immunohistochemistry; process development, due diligence, leadership/motivation and integration, strategic thinking, project- and network-management
    • Demonstrates courage, vision and drive to be at the forefront of innovative change
  • Leadership and people development:
    • Proven ability to lead with creative attitude, very high self-awareness and being a coach and a mentor to other leaders and partners
    • Demonstrates the ability to build networks and can inspire to work agile
