To learn more, visit our website at www.senestech.com Reporting to the Quality Control Manager, the Laboratory Chemist will directly support our research and development advances and quality control and quality assurance analysis. We are looking for a creative, cooperative laboratory chemist with a wealth of technical and industry knowledge and a talent for process optimization. A laboratory chemist will work in a laboratory setting to implement, analyze, and improve processes, equipment, and products. You will also work with other technicians and team members to understand the project and product goals; design and propose solutions, follow method protocols, perform laboratory duties, and assist in implementing, troubleshooting, and reviewing plans as projects progress. To be successful as a laboratory chemist, you should be passionate about research, development, and science. Outstanding candidates have an in-depth knowledge of chemistry and superb observations and analytical skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform sample and QC analyses as specified by the test method ensuring that all relevant and/or required information is properly documented and recorded.
  • Maintain records of quality assurance and quality control evaluation of manufactured bait batches for SenesTech and US Environmental Protection Agency audit.
  • Perform review/interpretation of results to verify that data is accurate and reasonable.
  • Must effectively work independently while maintaining clear communication with supervisors to ensure the accomplishment of tasks in line with the company's manufacturing and R&D priorities.
  • Perform instrumentation calibrations and/or basic troubleshooting as needed.
  • Must maintain neat and accurate laboratory records and a clean work area free of safety hazards.
  • Must maintain strict compliance with Quality Control and Ethics Policies.
  • Perform routine maintenance for all equipment used including PC, scanners, instrumentation, parts, fittings, and sample cylinders.
  • Properly dispose of samples and waste as required by the protocol.
  • Track stock of consumable supplies
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Be comfortable developing new protocols from peer-review literature to prepare samples for analysis on gas chromatography and liquid chromatography systems.
  • Demonstrated analytical and strong organizational skills, with the ability to follow established protocols and provide input to improve efficiency, where appropriate.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks, often with tight or conflicting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills (writing sample or brief presentation may be requested).
  • Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.
  • Knowledge of laboratory bench techniques and GLP.
  • The ability to execute assigned tasks quickly and accurately while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Ability to acquire skills and concepts promptly.
  • Must be an active listener who can relay information clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and seek appropriate feedback/clarification from leadership to ensure tasks are completed in the required timeframe and with work-product meeting established levels of expectation.
  • Knowledge of MS Office products: Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel; Adobe Acrobat; Apple and PC.
  • Ability to use standard lab and office equipment including computer, desk or cell phone, copier, and fax machines.
  • Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond specific instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry and 5 years professional experience OR Master's degree with 3 years experience and industry-specific knowledge required.
  • Must have several years' experience working at the bench conducting chemical analysis.
  • 3-5 years of experience with HPLC and GC machinery.
  • Experience working in a start-up-type environment is preferred.
  • 1-3 years' involvement within a research and development stage process.

Physical Demands:
  • Most working hours are in a laboratory or office setting, either working independently or meeting with team members in a warehouse.
  • Most work is performed while sitting or standing at a laboratory bench or scientific equipment.
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds required.

Compensation Details:
  • $46,000-$60,000 per year, DOE. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position requiring 40 hours of work per week. SenesTech is a publicly traded company and stock options may also be available as supplemental, performance-based compensation.
