Position Summary

The QC Microbiologist is responsible for the performance of microbial release assays, assay qualifications, and other in-process product microbial assays to support Phase I/II/III and Commercial GMP manufacturing under cGMP and GLP guidelines.

The Role

  • Performs USP 61 Microbial Limits Testing, USP 62 Absence of Specified Microorganisms, and Water Testing (Microbial, TOC, Nitrates, Conductivity, Endotoxin)
  • Performs Identification of organisms (gram staining and chemical analysis) and Growth promotion of media
  • Responsible for Equipment testing
  • Conducts Environmental Monitoring and resultant plate reading
  • Writes, reviews, and executes standard operating procedures, qualifications, study protocols, and deviation reports.
  • Assists in preparation of project plans, status reports, and oral presentations with management.
  • Coordinates inventory and release of microbial media to assure a high and accurate throughput.
  • Provides input for the existing and upcoming Quality Control programs.
  • Maintains laboratory metrics and maintains assay release documentation and details.
  • Writes and executes procedures for aseptic process simulations specific to each cell therapy process.


The Candidate
  • B.S. in microbiology or related field
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry


  • Experience in a CGMP laboratory is preferred
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
