GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGER

SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGAN -WORLD HEADQUARTERS

As a member of the EHS team, the Global Environmental Manager will be responsible for guiding site leaders to drive toward environmental excellence and work to ensure legal compliance across all facilities globally, fostering globally consistent processes and risk management. This role will include all facets of environmental performance and sustainability, including efforts to ensure Lear's adherence to the UN SDG's, and support of Lear's climate change goals and related initiatives. Leading remediation projects and environmental due diligence toward divestitures and acquisitions is also included. Efforts will be primarily focused on our operational footprint, but frequent interaction with and support of efforts led by Lear's Global manager of Environmental Sustainability is expected.

The Role:

Your work will include, but not be limited to:
  • Provide direction, guidance, and technical advice to the global sites in the areas of Environmental best practice and compliance, and ensure requirements are in place to protect the environment. In doing so, collaborate effectively with regional EHS, Operations and other leaders.
  • Lead environmental due diligence activities toward acquisitions and divestitures.
  • Manage remediation activities and provide technical assistance to ensure successful conclusions.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental permits and reporting requirements, establishing processes to ensure global visibility and compliance assurance.
  • Ensure programs and processes are in place to ensure year-over-year improvement of energy, waste and water metrics, meeting or bettering Lear regional and corporate goals specific to each. Lead the overall implementation of Lear's energy playbook, and subsequent playbooks specific to water and waste.
  • Establish systems for environmental incident prevention and ensure a strong root cause analysis process to prevent a recurrence globally.
  • Maintain the Notice of Violation log and appropriate corrective actions are executed.
  • Ensure accurate and timely data submittal from our global sites with respect to environmental reporting of energy, waste, water and other data inputs.
  • Support Energy Management activities including audits, training and execution assistance where needed.
  • Assist with CDP and other ESG (customer, investor) related reporting where needed
  • Support other environmental activities related to Lear's supply chain where needed
  • Assess education and training needs, evaluate programs/processes and develop Environmental training as necessary at global sites.
  • Work with plant ISO 14001 and 45001 teams and ensure sites fully implement Lear's integrated EHSMS, ensuring sites maintain required ISO certifications, including attending management reviews, conducting internal audits and participating in group scheme external audit activities as needed.

Your Qualifications:
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Understanding of US Federal and State environmental laws and regulations and Federal OSHA standards, along with a general understanding of global environmental regulation.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Excellent human relations skills
  • Prefer B.S. degree (related to Environmental Science); Minimum 10 years of experience in EH&S. Depending on background the 10 years may be waived.

Bonus If You Have:
  • Prefer CHMM or other environmentally related certifications
