Description of duties DuPont Crop Protection is seeking a motivated, capable Biologist as an Associate Investigator to join its Global Discovery Plant Disease team located in the Newark, DE facility.
The successful candidate will work on all aspects of Plant Pathology including all phases of the fungicide screening process, such as test set-up, formulation and spraying of experimental compounds, inoculation, rating, computer data entry and analysis, and quality assessment. Activities will also include design, set-up, implementation and evaluation of experiments with results to be compiled, interpreted, and effectively communicated in both written reports and oral presentations. Participation in field trials may be necessary. The focus of the work will be research related to the discovery of compounds with fungicidal activity.

Job Duties:
- All aspects of work relating to the discovery of candidate fungicides, including compound dilution, formulation, application, spraying and biological evaluation.
- Bioassay design, implementation and execution. Research may require field trial applications and numerous biological observations.
- Field, growth chamber and greenhouse plant production and propagation as necessary to support research efforts.
- Plant pathogen culture, inoculation and aseptic and sterile techniques as necessary to support research projects.
- Data collection, analysis and report generation using a variety of software programs. Familiarity with Crop Protection data management systems a plus.
- Photographic and microscopy experience, skills and interests also a plus.
- BS/MS degree in Plant Pathology, Botany, Plant Science, Agronomy, or a B.S. degree in a related science field with experience working in commercial agriculture/horticulture, or equivalent work experience.
- Knowledge of plant pathology preferred.
- Ability to design, plan, and implement experiments, evaluate whole-plant and microbiological assays, summarize and interpret results (including quality assessment)
- Ability to present summary technical results in both internal and external meeting formats and effectively communicating results in written and oral reports.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, including flexibility to:
- adapt to changing priorities/responsibilities
- learn new techniques
- undertake non-routine tasks, and/or
- move to where extra resources are needed.
