The Environment of Care Manager collaborates with facility leaders and staff in the development, implementation and management of the EOC program in compliance with all applicable regulations impacting management in an acute care environment. Serves as an ongoing key liaison in all related education programs and committees.
Education/Experience:
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a related field plus five years of experience in hospital/healthcare, which includes leadership experience.
(Educational requirements may be waived if applicant has an Associate's degree and two to three years additional experience in areas mentioned above and also includes one year in a management role)
Job Knowledge & Skills:
Demonstrates working knowledge of healthcare facility safety practices and applicable regulations/safety codes. Familiar with The Joint Commission and ISDH safety standards and survey process.
Requires in -depth analytical and organizational skills necessary to research, develop and monitor a diverse environment of care and safety program, as well as provide related education to leaders and staff.
Demonstrates knowledge of management theory and practice to effectively manage facility environment of care programs and clearly communicate and coordinate activities to achieve collaborative results.
Demonstrates a high level of interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, in order to interact effectively with all internal and external unit customers.
Essential Functions:
Assists program leaders with facility environment of care and safety program development, implementation and oversight to ensure the safety of patients, caregivers, and visitors, including regulatory oversight of the program for compliance with applicable federal, state, local and accrediting bodies and consistent with policies and procedures.
Assists with educational and training strategies to support Associate Safety and Environment of Care Program activities.
Collaborates with program leaders to ensure regulatory compliance for Associate Safety, OSHA and Environment of Care programs. Facilitates the integration of facility regulations into all relevant network processes, functions, and services.
Assists Environment of Care program leaders with policy and procedure development, implementation and assessment of effectiveness in relation to the facility environment of care and safety program.
Assists the program leaders with the Environment of Care committee efforts.
Assists program leaders with the Environment of Care annual objectives, performance standards, annual program reviews and annual plan development.
Develops, documents, tracks, and evaluates improvement plans and implements necessary measures to achieve facility targeted capabilities
Works to reduce the risk of system or process failures as a result of effective assessments, gap analysis, and action planning.
Assures immediate response to system or process failures, including care, treatment, or services for individuals, containing risk to others, and preserving factual information for subsequent analysis to further reduce risk or harm to others.
Assists with hazardous surveillance inspections, investigations, monitoring, reviews and surveys to support unit management in abating any imminent hazards and develops corrective action plans to prioritize and correct all hazards in a timely manner. This may include coordination of any onsite visits, governing bodies or in-house self-audits.
May provide guidance on or conduct routine audits and assessments for occupational safety, health and environmental management systems including but not limited to OSHA programs, DOT programs, waste management programs, chemical hygiene plans, exposure control plans, PPE management programs and fleet safety programs.
May serve as community liaison representing hospital and medical group during local, county, regional and state planning and response activities. Designs, conducts, and documents emergency management drills, and exercises and facilitates appropriate response to actual events.
May be assigned to network on county, state and regional councils/committees focusing on emergency management, public safety, emergency communications or other emergency service functions. Collaborates with program leaders to ensure compliance with state laws, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and regulatory bodies governing the emergency management program.
