Type of position The Department of Horticulture in the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture seeks an individual who will develop and lead a highly effective and nationally recognized extension and applied research program in weed control in turfgrass, specialty crops, and forestry. This is a non-tenured assistant or associate professor position with a 75% extension and 25% research appointment. This position will provide leadership in horticultural weed control for the state and complement related Departmental and faculty programs in these areas.

Description of Location State Extension Headquarters, Little Rock, Arkansas - a modern facility located on South University Avenue in the capital city of Arkansas. Little Rock is the metropolitan and political center of the state, offering diverse schools, living communities, cultural and historical settings, and outstanding health care facilities including the highly ranked UA Medical Sciences Campus and Hospital. It is centrally located in the state, providing rapid and convenient access to all areas.

Description of duties This position will be responsible for development and implementation of relevant and up-to-date extension education programs that positively impact Arkansas turf industries, specialty crop producers, and forestry and that strengthen the excellence of local county extension programs in these areas. In addition, this position will develop a targeted problem-solving applied research program and exercise effective grantsmanship in support of extension and research efforts. Extensive travel in the state and collaboration with interdisciplinary faculty, county extension agents, growers, and industry personnel on best management systems; and sustainability will be key to success.

Qualifications sought Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. in Weed Science, Horticulture, or highly related field; excellent demonstrated verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications Experience in horticultural extension and applied research; experience in weed management; experience in team collaboration and leadership; experience in effective grantsmanship; experience in using applied research to solve problems; experience with diverse stakeholders.
