Job Description
Versar's Environmental Services Group has an immediate opening for a full-time Marine/Estuarine Scientist to augment its Natural Resources team in Columbia, MD. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of related experience and be able to assist the company with marine/estuarine project management and execution. Knowledge of estuarine benthic ecology is preferred. Tasks will include managing marine/estuarine biological monitoring and assessment projects, and related data analysis and reporting tasks. Work may also include support to field sampling and laboratory operations.

Responsibilities:
- The successful applicant will be part of the Versar team that meets clients' needs related to the following tasks:
- Marine/estuarine project management with emphasis on benthic ecology
- Analysis of marine/estuarine benthic macroinvertebrate, water chemistry, and sediment data
- Reporting of biological, chemical, and physical condition of the Chesapeake Bay and its tidal tributaries
- Maintenance of client relationships via meetings and conference calls
- Communicating with government, academic, industry researchers, and Chesapeake Bay Program partners via meetings, workgroups, and in relevant scientific conferences
- Researching, acquiring, and synthesizing scientific literature and data
- Support to other Columbia office projects
Requirements:
- MS degree in marine science or related field required
- 5-10 years technical experience in conducting marine/estuarine science projects with a focus on benthic ecology
- Proficiency in statistical analysis of environmental data as well as experience with applications to natural resource and ecological problems
- Programing skills in SAS and/or R preferred
- Excellent communication skills, as well as strong conceptual, organizational, problem solving and research abilities
- Strong analytical and writing skills, as well as the ability to orally present results to the scientific community are necessary for this position
- The ability and flexibility to work with a variety of staff, projects, and task timelines simultaneously is critical to this position
- Detail-oriented, organized, and team player with a strong focus on quality and client service
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite
- Public participation, agency coordination, and planning is a plus
- This position will require occasional availability to work evening and overnight hours, and weekends, as project requirements warrant
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and capable of obtaining government security clearance and/or Common Access Card (CAC) if required
- This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with Versar's vehicle policy
