The Tumor Microenvironment Thematic Research Center (TME TRC) is focused on developing therapeutic targets at the intersection of tumor, stromal and immune biology within the TME with the goal of enhancing responsiveness to checkpoint blockade and targeted therapies. Comprising of scientists across multiple disciplines we are responsible for the biology and translational science necessary to support drug development from target identification through to first in human studies.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Principal Scientist or Sr. Principal Scientist with deep immunology and immuno-oncology drug discovery and development experience to join the Myeloid Biology team as part of the Immunology and Stromal Biology Discovery group within the TME TRC. The individual will be part of a dynamic and matrixed research team responsible for supporting all aspects of drug discovery and development. They will work collaboratively with drug discovery, predictive science, translational and clinical teams to advance molecules and further mechanistic understandings of myeloid biology in the TME. The qualified candidate will bring extensive knowledge in immunology, myeloid biology and drug development to the team.

Core Responsibilities:

Deliver novel therapies that modulate myeloid cells within the TME

Contribute to shaping and implementing research strategy that delivers an innovative Immunology and Stromal Biology portfolio within the TME TRC

Ensure that key programs are aligned with overall research strategies and that appropriate activities are prioritized

Comprehend competitive drug discovery/development landscape, including bridging evolving patient need with emerging scientific breakthroughs to enable drug discovery targeting the TME

Leverage subject matter expertise to identify opportunities and sources of portfolio growth (including from internal and external innovation)

Contribute knowledge and expert opinions across functions, locally and globally

Support a culture of rigorous data-driven decision-making that rewards truth-seeking behavior

Mentor and directly manage scientist

Requirements:

PhD or MD/PhD in immunology, cancer biology, immuno-oncology, myeloid biology or equivalent advanced biology degree

5-8+ years of industry experience, with a proven track record in target validation and drug discovery

Strong background in biologics and/or small molecule drug discovery, including evidence of subject matter expertise through publications in the field or inventorship in patents

Experience in bringing biologic and/or small molecule programs from preclinical research through to IND submission

Experience in studying the TME (with emphasis on myeloid populations) a plus

Working knowledge of all functional areas of drug development including toxicology, translational biology and early clinical development

Excellent verbal and written communication skills across all levels both within an organization and with external collaborators/companies with the ability to recognize, articulate and accept calculated risks to make informed decisions
