Job Description

Retinal Diseases Discovery Biology group is seeking a driven and creative Research Associate to join our drug discovery team. This is an exciting opportunity to directly contribute to drug target identification and validation activities in close collaboration with colleagues in Biology, Chemistry and Biologics teams and across our Research & Development Division. The ideal candidate will be an eager-to-learn, self-motivated team player with high-level of scientific curiosity and enthusiasm for drug discovery. The primary responsibilities will include planning and execution of experiments focused on novel target discovery and validation using a wide range of cutting edge in vitro and in vivo techniques. Direct hands-on experience with in vitro and in vivo pre-clinical models of retinal diseases is preferred.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design and execute experiments for target identification and validation utilizing in vitro cell-based assays and in vivo disease animal models
- Employ cutting edge molecular/cell/biochemistry techniques to discover target function and mechanism of action
- Learn and establish novel platforms and technologies to advance drug discovery efforts
Education:
- B.S. in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Genetics, or related biological discipline and at least 3 years of postgraduate hands-on laboratory experience in academic or industry setting
Required Experience and Skills:
- Excellent sterile technique and tissue culture experience
- Ability to independently design, perform, troubleshoot, and interpret biological experiments
- Proficiency using data analysis and visualization software such as Excel and GraphPad Prism
- Strong motivation and passion for science
- Commitment to experimental excellence
- Excellent oral presentation and communication skills
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Hands-on experience handling laboratory animals
- Knowledge and experience in ocular biology and retinal diseases
- Hands-on experience with in vitro and in vivo pre-clinical models of retinal diseases
