Job Summary
AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry Level Environmental Scientist for immediate employment with the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Department in the Chelmsford, Massachusetts or Portland, Maine Office. The Northeast EHS Department manages and executes various multi-media environmental regulatory compliance and due diligence projects for federal, municipal, and private-sector clients.
The Environmental Scientist will work under the supervision of a project manager or senior level team member on a variety of projects related to environmental multi-media environmental regulatory compliance (e.g., Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Clean Air Act, etc.) and its application (i.e., developing Spill Prevention and Stormwater Pollution Prevention plans, preparing NPDES storm water and wastewater permits, conducting multi-media compliance audits and providing corrective actions, developing environmental compliance SOPs and programs, etc.), as well as environmental due diligence projects to support property transactions.

About DCS-Environment

We provide advisory and technical services to help clients cleanup and close contaminated sites and surplus operational facilities and restore them for reuse, plan and permit new facilities, address critical climate change issues, restore habitats and water quality, protect natural and cultural resources, maintain compliance, and cost effectively manage residuals and wastes.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Entry-level position in AECOM's Environment Business Line within the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Technical Practice Area; position will report to EHS Department in AECOM's Chelmsford, MA or Portland, ME office.
- Work under supervision of a project manager or senior level team member on a variety of EHS projects, including but not limited to: environmental compliance plans and permitting, environmental site assessments, and hazardous material surveys.
- Utilizes basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope.
- Collects and enters data and applies technical principles and theories.
- Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
- Entry-level position; may not require previous experience.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or Policy, or relevant environmental discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
- 0 to 2 years of environmental regulatory compliance/due diligence experience.
- Highly effective verbal and written communication skills; extremely proficient in technical writing; highly effective organization and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple demands, think strategically and successfully lead multiple simultaneous projects.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, judgment and problem-solving capabilities
- Willingness/ability to be in the field and travel as necessary.
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training.
- Experience in CADD or GIS.
