Position Overview

Responsible for developing innovative solutions for difficult and complex environmental management problems by anticipating challenges and issues, conducting inspections and investigations, developing programs to safeguard people and the environment, and staying abreast of environmental statutes. Recommends and develops policies, goals, and strategies in compliance with environmental regulations and standards.

Job Responsibilities

  • Anticipates internal and/or external business challenges and/or regulatory issues.
  • Interprets applicable regulations and proposes methods for compliance.
  • Conducts special studies, inspections, and incident investigations, performs root cause analysis, and determines corrective actions of complex problems affecting program efficiencies.
  • Develops innovative solutions for difficult and complex environmental management problems.
  • Designs, develops, implements, and oversees the the company's environmental compliance and sustainability programs. Recommends and develops policies, goals, objectives, organizational structures, and strategies to ensure operations are in compliance with applicable environmental regulations and standards.
  • Leads project teams to achieve milestones and objectives for development, communication and training of environmental programs.
  • Evaluates program performance and makes adjustments to programs as needed.
  • Establishes performance standards and facilitates opportunities for teammate training and advancement. Develops educational materials and tools for branches regarding environmental policies and procedures.
  • Acts as liaison between EHS Operations leaders and other business functions (Fleet, Compliance, Learning and Organizational Development, Customer Experience, etc.).
  • Responds to inquiries from community, regulatory agencies, or other groups and officials regarding environmental concerns.
  • Stays abreast of recent legislative, administrative, and judicial interpretations of related environmental statutes and ensures staff is well informed of changes.
  • Provides liability, reactive, and consultative support including, but not necessarily limited to, leading the strategy development and continuous support of long-term environmental liabilities.
  • Provides subject matter consultative support related to reactive matters.
  • Supports due diligence activities relative to M&A, new business and vertical integration growth opportunities.
  • Drives environmental sustainability goal alignment and continuous improvement efforts with key internal stakeholders.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or equivalent. Master's degree preferred.
  • 10+ years experience in environmental programs and field work.
  • Environmental experience in a distributed, branch-based business is preferred.
  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple projects
  • Ability to plan, organize, and evaluate the operations and services of a division, program, or unit
  • Establish, monitor, and control projects and schedules to meet goals and objectives
  • Ability to recognize problems, analyze and evaluate complex data, develop recommendations and solutions, and take appropriate actions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software applications, especially Word and Excel.

Incumbent must be prepared to:
  • Move up to 10 pounds occasionally, by lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise repositioning objects.
  • Sitting for long periods of time while using office equipment such as computers, phones and etc.
  • Fingering and Repetitive motions; such as movement of wrists, hands and fingers while picking, pinching and typing during your normal working environment.
  • Express or exchange ideas with others through the use of spoken word, quickly, accurately, and at an easily audible volume, and receive detailed information through oral communication at usual speaking levels without correction, and/or make fine discriminations in the nature of sounds in the environment.


Incumbent is required to have:
  • Close visual acuity to perform detail oriented activities at distances close to the eyes, as well as visual acuity to perform activities at or within arm's reach with skill, control, and accuracy, such as preparing and analyzing data, viewing computer screen and expansive reading.


Incumbent will be subject to:
  • Inside working conditions: The change of building environment such as with or without air conditioning and heating.
