Reporting to the Vice-President Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability, the Director of Environment will establish corporate direction in Environmental affairs. The candidate will have experience in directing projects and consultants and will be responsible for execution of the implementation of the Environmental components of the Integrated management System (IMS). The role will require a general multi-disciplinary knowledge relating to environmental management, community relations, and international conventions/ standards and sustainability within North and South America.

The Director, Environment will also provide support to members of the Executive Committee (EXCO), and site-based mine managers and other environment & sustainability professionals in the organization.

Required Skills
  • Management and execution of environmental components of the IMS.
  • Development and governance of key enterprise-level environmental management policies, standards, and systems for implementation at corporate and site levels
  • Review and assess corporate and site compliance and performance against enterprise-level policies, standards, and systems for environmental relations
  • Review and assess corporate and site compliance and performance against external environmental initiatives and commitments (e.g. water security, ICMC, waste management)
  • Oversee the work of external environmental consultants to ensure the timeliness and quality of project deliverables
  • Oversee environmental performance management in conjunction with senior corporate and site management.
  • Develops analysis and reports on trends on environment and sustainability data
  • Lead, teach and provide guidance in the following areas: human rights, community development and consultation, ESG, and Environmental Management Systems in Canada, US, Argentina, Turkey and other jurisdictions where the Company operates or have properties.


Required Experience

· Bachelors or Masters (preferred) University degree in an Environmental related field

· 10 + years related work experience, preferably in an international mining company/ consultancy

· General experience in precious metals mining

· Experience in environmental management, including mine closure, waste & water management and management systems

· Experience in environmental assessments and permitting in multiple jurisdictions including knowledge of international standards (eg World Bank, IFC)

  • Broad knowledge of the industry, international exposure, and an appreciation of the sustainability aspects of project valuation including opportunities and liabilities
  • Practical experience at a similar size company, in operations, including Operations, Exploration, Project Development and M&A, is highly desirable
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish and/or Turkish preferred
  • Willingness to travel internationally and to remote sites at altitude
