Job Description

University of Nevada, Reno, Cooperative Extension is recruiting for a full-time, non-tenure track 12-month Lecturer II/Teaching Assistant Professor, Extension Educator for its Southern Nye County Nevada location in Pahrump. This position will reside in the Southern Nye County area, preferably the town of Pahrump, Nevada. The Extension Educator's primary role is to establish and build a community-wide 4-H Youth Development education program focused upon identified needs of children, youth and families. This would include recruitment, training, management and retainment of 4-H members and volunteers. The Educator would coordinate other program needs such as natural resources, health and nutrition, agriculture and horticulture programming in Southern Nye county through collaboration with Specialists and other Extension programs. This position assesses community needs, develops and implements relevant educational programming, and documents program outcomes and impacts. Additional roles and responsibilities include: 1) serving as the local university liaison with county government 2) securing resources (grants, gifts, budget enhancements) as needed; 3) providing oversight and management of the Southern Nye County Extension Office; and 4) assuming professionalism with all internal and external audiences, ensuring proactive communication. This position requires a commitment to work effectively with diverse cultural and community interests and develop and maintain solid working relationships.

Required Qualifications

Lecturer II - Master's Degree and related experience

Teaching Assistant Professor - Terminal Degree and related experience

Related Experience: Youth Development, Family Studies, Child Development, Community Development, or other related degree programs. Experience/Oversight of a 4-H Youth Development program.

Certification and Licensure

Valid Nevada State Driver's License or ability to obtain one within six months. Successful fingerprinting / background check

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of:

Organizational development in a community education setting.

Assessing and determining community needs.

Ability to:

Supervise and manage staff, budgets, and various administrative duties.

Develop community relationships with advocacy, citizen and coalition groups, stakeholders, university faculty, and other community groups.

Skills in:

Program development, implementation and evaluation.

Utilizing digital and social media related to community programming.
