This position is located with the Northern Research Station office in Houghton, MI. This employee serves as a Program Director for the Northern Forests Climate Hub (Climate Hub) and the Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science (NIACS). Learn more about this agency Responsibilities * Oversees fiscal and physical resources of the Climate Hub and NIACS ? including budget and management of grants, agreements, and contracts. * Coordinates and supervises Climate Hub and NIACS workflow within NRS-06 and across NRS and fosters a respectful team environment that inspires innovative, high-quality applied science, synthesis, tool development, application, and science delivery. * Manages functions and activities of the Climate Hub and NIACS, ensuring progress toward annual objectives/products and long-term goals. * Prepares annual reports and provides regular updates for local and national leadership, stakeholders, and key partners. * Serves as an NRS technical expert on climate change risk, vulnerabilities, and adaptation. * Demonstrates science leadership and vision by leveraging the science synthesis, assessment, and delivery assets of the Climate Hub and NIACS with R and D research programs to improve delivery of the R and D programs of work in the east. * Plans and supervises the execution of multidisclipinary research, synthesis, tools and application that support NRS, Climate Hub, and NIACS priorities. * Leads the integration of Climate Hub and NIACS science, tools and delivery with other internal and external science programs and serves as a primary Station spokesperson for these relevant subject areas. * Oversees content and continuous improvements to the NRS-06, Climate Hub, and NIACS websites and other outreach materials. * Collaboratively builds partnerships across federal and non-federal agency partners and relevant stakeholders. * Provides technical support to forest and agricultural stakeholders and synthesizes and communicates complex scientific information to a non-scientific community. * Leverages competitive funding opportunities and partnerships to support Climate Hub and agency goals. * Interprets climate change forecasts for hazard and adaptation planning in agriculture, forestry, and water resources. Basic Requirement for Social Science Series (0101): Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience -- that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. Basic Requirement for Biological Science Series (0401): Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major described above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Basic Requirement for the Physical Science Series (1301): Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic education qualifications for at least one of the series above, you must possess the following specialized experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below. You must provide your transcripts for qualifications based on education. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the specialized experience requirements. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For the GS-14 level: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To qualify at this grade level, your resume must reflect 3 out of 4 of the following: Providing science synthesis, education, outreach, and technical support to agencies, external partners, and customers to enhance understanding of climate risks on forested and agricultural landscapes; Planning, coordinating, and evaluating science program information dissemination efforts, including preparing input for budget for projects and programs; Developing potential management interventions for climate change adaptation and mitigation at relevant scales for decision-making for forest managers and agricultural producers; and Building coalitions among diverse collaborators and briefing and reporting to land management leaders.
