What We Do
United Therapeutics Corporation focuses on the strength of a balanced, value-creating biotechnology model. We are confident in our future thanks to our fundamental attributes, namely our commitment to quality and innovation, the power of our brands, our entrepreneurial culture and our bioinformatics leadership. We also believe that our determination to be responsible citizens - having a positive impact on patients, the environment and society - will sustain our success in the long term.
We currently have five approved products on the market and a long-term mission of providing an unlimited supply of transplantable organs for those who need them.
Our company was founded by an entrepreneur whose daughter was diagnosed with a life-threatening condition. She sought to find treatment options and a cure for her daughter and patients like her. We are founder-led, and relentless in our pursuit of "medicines for life". We continue to research and develop treatments for cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases, pediatric cancers and other orphan diseases.
How you'll contributeConduct cell-based research to support the development of tissue-engineered lungs. Aid in identifying and maintaining critical cells for the generation of functional lung tissue.
- Conduct insightful research into lung epithelial stem cell phenotypic stability and potency following isolation and expansion.
- Apply knowledge of relevant cell signaling pathways and microenvironmental cues from the niche to design and execute experiments to identify critical components to maintain epithelial stem cell potency and function during expansion.
- Investigate lung epithelial stem cell intermediate progenitors and transitional states via gene- and protein-level analysis, both during culture in vitro and in bioscaffolds.
- Aid in characterization of different stromal cell populations in the lung, with a goal of elucidating key characteristics critical to proper lung function and identifying multipotent stromal cells capable of performing multiple critical functions.
- Independently and collaboratively develop and use cell-based assays for evaluating primary lung cell function.
- Perform bioanalytical assays to characterize cellular phenotypes (flow cytometry, immunocytochemistry, Western Blot, qPCR, ELISA).
- Manage sample submission for external characterization and independently execute analysis of large datasets (i.e. RNAseq).
- Lead cross-team collaborations with other internal teams to support identification of critical cell types (endothelial, stromal, and epithelial) for successful engineering of lung tissue.
- Conduct independent literature review and propose well-designed experimental plans to address key scientific questions related to lung cell biology.
- Efficiently execute laboratory experiments following plans and protocols with good attention to detail.
- Analyze data and reach sound conclusions as supported by experimental findings.
- Compile data into easily interpreted summary reports with key outcomes highlighted.
- Regularly prepare presentations and present and discuss data with laboratory staff, program leaders, and external partners.
- Author and/or review scientific communications, inclusive of patents, publications, and regulatory filings.
- Manage external partnerships with academic collaborators and CROs.
- Demonstrate responsible and judicious use of inventory supplies, alerting lab management of inventory and supply needs in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
