The Department of Biology is searching for a faculty member to teach undergraduate and graduate students, conduct research and engage in service-related activities. The successful candidate should be broadly trained, preferably with expertise in signal transduction or cellular systems or cell dynamics, and will be expected to teach upper-division majors courses in Cell Biology and undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate's area of specialty. Other teaching responsibilities will be dependent upon the expertise of the candidate.

The applicant will be expected to build an interdisciplinary research program focused on important questions currently being addressed in any biological field of study (e.g., development, disease, neurobiology, physiology, organismal biology, plant biology, etc.).

Possible areas of specialization for the position include, but are not limited to, stem cell systems, immunotherapies, interests in translational research using animal models, tissue regeneration, neuronal signaling, organelle dynamics and intracellular communication, and molecular biology therapies. Specific teaching assignments will depend on the candidate's expertise and departmental needs. Faculty members are also expected to engage in service activities at all levels of the university and provide academic and professional advice to students.

Qualifications:

Required Education:

1. An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Cell Biology or a closely related field from an accredited (or equivalent) institution.

Required Experience:

1. Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds
2. Evidence of publications in peer-reviewed scholarly journals.
3. Demonstration of grant writing or scholarly activity at the university level.
4. Evidence of teaching preparedness.

Preferred Experience:

1. Successful college teaching experience.
2. Postdoctoral research or experience.
3. A publication record that is commensurate with the candidate's experience
4. Success in obtaining extramural grants and/or contracts for research.

The Department of Biology consists of excellent teachers with active, externally-funded research programs. They are dedicated to providing students with cutting-edge experiences in their areas of expertise. The department includes 18 tenure/tenure-track faculty with research strengths in physiology, ecology and evolutionary biology, molecular genetics, cellular and developmental biology, neurobiology, and microbiology, with whom the successful candidate may collaborate. In addition, a cell biologist could develop interdisciplinary collaborations with biochemistry, mathematics and computer science faculty within the college.
