TITLE: Analytical Microbiology Performance Manager (Bioinformatics, NGS, WGS)
DEPARTMENT: Food Safety & Quality
FUNCTION: Programs & Systems, SUB - FUNCTION: Analytical Performance Center (APC)
REPORTS TO: Sr. Manager of Laboratory & Analytical Services
INDUSTRY: Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG)
DESCRIPTION:
The Analytical Microbiology Performance Manager will serve as a subject matter expert for the Microbiology laboratory. The candidate will lead innovation projects, troubleshoot and investigate incidents, design experiments, develop, validate, implement methods, compile and review reports, support findings with literature reviews, train internal stakeholders, build cross-functional partnerships, and communicate effectively to senior leaders. This Manager must have a strong background including Microbiology, Bioinformatics, Technical Writing, Data Analysis, NGS-based ITS and 16S rRNA gene sequencing, and whole genome shotgun sequencing (WGS). THE APC Manager is also expected to maintain the laboratory Quality Management System (QMS) according to ISO 17025 requirements with the support of other team members.
The Analytical Performance Center (APC) supports efficiency and productivity projects across the organization. Key stakeholders include: Manufacturing, R&I, Food Safety, Industrialization, and Supplier Quality. The APC team acts as subject matter experts (SME) in the areas of Infrared, Flow Cytometry, Sequencing & Bioinformatics, and Allergens. We work closely with Procurement to optimize contracts that impact the organization at a global level. We also maintain partnerships with external laboratories, vendors, and universities to provide expert level support.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.S. in Microbiology/ Molecular Biology/or related field with 5 - 10 years of experience, in Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) field preferably. OR MS/ PhD in Microbiology/ Molecular Biology/or related field with 3 - 5 years of experience, in Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) field preferably
- Must have background in Bioinformatics applied to yeast, mold, and bacterial contamination analysis (NGS, ITS, 16S, WGS)
- Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) is a plus
- Experience with Laboratory Quality Systems (ISO 17025) is a plus
- Understanding of Good laboratory practice standards (GLP) and Chemical Hygiene requirements
- Proficient in data analysis/excellent record keeping/documentation
- Proficient in Technical Writing
- Experience with cGMP Manufacturing is a plus
- Self-motivated, highly organized, ability to multi-task, customer service & team oriented, excellent communication skills, effective at time management, and positive approach to business challenges
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Must have proficiency with personal computers, Microsoft Office, shared applications, and laboratory instrumentation
- Ability to work from home and onsite (during COVID)
- Ability to travel ~15-25% (post-COVID)
