We are currently seeking Full- Time Lab Materials Supervisor who will adhere to the aforementioned mission statement, provide assistance in all aspects of the facility, and who will collaborate with faculty members in planning, designing and setting up laboratory experiments to augment classroom instruction. The Supervisor will be actively involved in the teaching process, acquire, safely store, operate, and maintain inventory of laboratory equipment and materials in assigned area; this may include hazardous materials.



Required: Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Zoology, or other related discipline of science.

Preferred: Master's Degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Zoology.


Required: 1 year of laboratory experience.

Preferred: 2 years of laboratory experience.

* Ability to handle delicate tasks as well as lift heavy objects repeatedly.

* Follow safety standards and procedures.

* Assist in setting up experiments and projects for Faculty and Students.

* Perform general maintenance of equipment and restocking of supplies.

* Work independently and as a team member.

* Plan, organize, and prepare all operations of instructional laboratories.

* Demonstrate proper use of lab equipment and the safe handling and storage of specimens and chemicals.

* Coordinate with faculty to implement, troubleshoot, and oversee work/lab policies and procedures ensuring a safe and effective lab environment supporting student learning.

* Support computer operation, multimedia classroom, and instructional software for position. Assist and/or guide instructors as needed with laboratory set up and/or instruction.

* Manage collection and maintenance specimens and cultures, using appropriate techniques, equipment, and procedures.

* Ensure compliance with federal/ state regulations, and ensure safety and health standards which guide the safe and legal acquisition, use, storage, emergency procedures, and disposal of all chemicals and/or hazardous materials in the laboratories.

* Maintain current knowledge of laboratory subject matter, terminology, techniques, specialized instruments, materials, equipment, and material safety data sheets (MSDS), to be used in the assigned areas.

* Oversee inventory of equipment, expendable supplies, and order necessary supplies for the operation of multiple instructional laboratories. Coordinate with team leader(s) to identify lab related budget needs.

* Learn new computer software/programs required to fulfill responsibilities for position.

* Hire, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate the performance of student workers.

* Participate in and complete performance assessments/evaluations as assigned.

* Perform additional duties or job functions required and deemed necessary by supervisory personnel.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, frequently required to sit or stand for long periods, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed. Must be able to continuously lift 50lbs; lift and move heavy objects to maintain laboratory.

Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)

Working Environment: This job is located in Amarillo, Texas and operates in a seated classroom, online, or tech-supported setting. Classroom location assignment may vary. This role routinely uses standard classroom and office equipment such as microphones, audio/video recorders, computers, overhead projectors, phones, copy and fax machines, and filing cabinets.

Salary: Aligned with the current published salary scale for the represented position grade, commensurate with experience.
