We are currently seeking to add a Scientist/Project Manager to our dynamic team in Portland, Oregon.

Working with the PBS Team

PBS is actively seeking a Scientist/Project Manager for our Natural Resource Practice based in Portland, Oregon. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills and a broad range of capabilities with a demonstrated ability managing and leading projects, as well as serving in support roles. Depending on the project and your skills and capabilities, you may serve as project lead, task lead, or support staff. Projects may include wetland delineations and other field surveys, wetland and natural resource planning, mitigation design, shoreline restoration, permitting, NEPA/SEPA documentation, or Endangered Species Act compliance.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Leading and managing projects
  • Leading wetland delineations and other field studies, and preparing associated reports
  • Performing functional assessments using the state-specific methods in Oregon and Washington
  • Leading permitting efforts, preparing permit applications, preparing supporting documents, and negotiating permit conditions with regulatory agencies
  • Conducting natural resource assessments per requirements of Clean Water Services and other jurisdictions in the Portland Metro area
  • Preparing critical areas reports in Washington
  • Providing natural resources support to other departments
  • Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with PBS staff in other departments and clients

Minimum Qualifications Include:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Water Resources, Environmental Science, or related discipline
  • At least 5 years of experience working in a natural resource-related field with increasing levels of responsibilities during that time period
  • Experience conducting wetland delineations in the Pacific Northwest
  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification preferred
    ODOT/WSDOT Certification as Biological Assessment Author desired

  • Experience with federal, state, and local environmental permitting regulations and processes in Oregon and Washington
  • Proficiency with GPS equipment and ArcGIS / AutoCAD software desired
  • Strong personal organization skills, including the ability to deliver work products of multiple projects on time
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification preferred
