We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist II-Microbiology to join a Natural Products API group within Operations, Science and Technology. The Scientist will provide hands-on support in molecular biology research utilizing experience with microbial genetics and physiology for existing and new fermentation projects. The candidate will have laboratory research experience and a strong desire to continue in a laboratory-focused role. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teamwork environment are essential.
  • Perform general microbiology tasks independently including media preparation, sterilization, propagation of traditional and non-traditional industrial microbial cultures, differential staining, and foreign growth checks.
  • Perform basic and advanced molecular biology techniques including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, construction of plasmids, use of a variety of expression systems and the execution of DNA and protein electrophoresis protocols.
  • Develop and characterize microbial cell banks and develop inoculum processes to support robust fermentation applications.
  • Design (including statistical DOE's) and execute experiments at the shake flask scale and pilot fermentor platform with high precision.
  • Perform analytical measurement (e.g. enzyme assays, LC, GC) and generate reports.
  • Troubleshoot experiments and instrumentation. Improve technology in the lab, including online and offline analytical instrumentation to streamline workflow.
  • Perform literature review for better understanding on microbial genetics and physiology and generate hypothesis for empirical testing.
  • Communicates experimental designs and present experiment data/ conclusions in team meetings.
  • Author and revise SOPs and safety protocols.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of cGMP, job related SOPs and complete all assigned training on time.
  • Perform other projects and duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry or related field with 3-6 years of experience, or Master's Degree with 0-3 years of experiment
  • A good understanding of microbiology and biochemical principles, microbial physiology, fermentation process development and statistical methods.
  • Track record of hands-on laboratory experience.
  • Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail, effective documentations skills and ability to function within a complex technical environment.
