The candidate would also lead the Environmental Transformations and Interactions Science Area, one of the three foundational science areas of focus for EMSL. This is a high visibility, high impact position executing on our strategy in environmental sciences spanning work across molecular to mesoscale systems representing EMSL's world class expertise in biogeochemical and physiochemical transformations, ecosystem interface research including land-atmosphere and terrestrial-aquatic regions, plant and ecosystem phenotyping, and multi-scale modeling focused on linking mechanistic/molecular scale models to hierarchical process and transport models. The successful candidate will have a passion for cutting edge science and strategy execution as well as a strong desire to develop staff careers. EMSL is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science user facility that provides innovative and breakthrough experimental and computational science to address DOE Office of Biological and Environmental Research (BER) programs by providing access to more than 150 state-of-the-art instrumental and computational capabilities. The users propose to work with EMSL in BER-relevant science areas and if successful collaborate with EMSL on their science. EMSL users address some of the most important molecular-to-mesoscale challenges relevant to DOE missions. The successful candidate will quickly learn about the EMSL instrumentation, capabilities, science areas, the user program and BER's scientific directions as well as line management responsibilities.
