The Research Assistant will serve as the study coordinator of the HUD funded study "Reducing Metal Exposures in the Home: A Pilot Intervention." This is a pilot project to test the effectiveness of a home intervention to reduce metals exposure that may have been partially brought home by construction workers. The study aims to recruit 60 households for a baseline visit/intervention and a follow-up visit to characterize exposure to lead and other metals and evaluate the effectiveness of three tiers of interventions in reducing blood and home dust levels of metals. Specifically, the Research assistant will be involved in the following activities:

  • Coordinating and interacting with the BUSPH research team, Harvard researchers, several non-profit, and governmental institutions for the execution of the project.
  • Coordinating stake holder meetings to share progress reports.
  • Assisting in developing ethical review board protocols and documents as well as recruitment and educational materials, sections of manuscripts, and reports to the funding agency.
  • Leading efforts to recruit households in the Greater Boston area in collaboration with the PI, research team and non-profit organizations.
  • Interacting and coordinating with participants and their household members to set-up sampling and intervention visits.
  • Leading sampling in home visits with assistance from students. Home visits will include sampling of the home dust, administering of surveys, observations/inspection, and coordinating with a mobile phlebotomist to obtain biological specimens from participants and their family members.
  • Facilitating the storage, processing and shipping of samples with laboratories.
  • Creating and maintaining a tracking database for all data collection.
  • Assisting with data input, cleaning and tabulations.

The Research Assistant will participate in regular team meetings, train student research assistants, and join a team comprised of faculty, graduate students and research assistants. Knowledge in chemistry and chemical analysis, sampling, and data analysis is desirable.
