The Discovery Biology team is looking for an innovative, creative and driven drug discovery immunologist to help advance our portfolio of anti-tumor cell therapies and immuno-oncology products. The successful candidate will have expertise in subsets of tumor associated immunity and the tumor microenvironment including immune cell dysfunction, stromal biology, and myeloid suppression. In addition, the candidate will have experience in target hypothesis generation and validation using both cellular immunology and molecular skills. This scientist will work in a highly collaborative, fast paced environment involving multiple teams across the company.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Identification of tumor microenvironment specific restrictions on immune cell infiltration and function and development of novel concepts to overcome these using cell engineering, biologic and small molecule therapeutic approaches
  • Independently conceive, develop and execute novel in vitro and ex vivo assays/models to evaluate cell therapy efficacy in the context of the tumor microenvironment
  • Project leadership and collaboration across multiple projects / roles in a matrixed environment and obtaining alignment across different functional groups to drive decision making
  • Designing and implementing critical studies required to drive hypothesis-driven research
  • Anticipate the need for contingencies and demonstrate flexibility through development of alternative strategies
  • Present project and strategic framework updates and recommendations to leadership teams across the company
  • Provide supervision of junior scientists
  • Maintaining cutting edge knowledge of relevant research fields


Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in immunology, immune-oncology or tumor immunology or M.S. with a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience or B.S. with minimum of 12 years of relevant work experience in relevant fields
  • Experience with immune and oncology related cell types including subset of T cells, NK cells, macrophages, MDSCs, DCs, fibroblasts/stroma, transformed tumor cells
  • Experience with cutting edge technologies typically employed to assess immune cell function including but not limited to subset of Luminex, MSD, IncuCyte-based assays, multi-parameter flow cytometry, T cell activation assays, myeloid cell functional assays, heterotypic cell cultures, imaging technologies, molecular characterization of gene expression and protein expression (e.g. Taqman, western blot, Citeseq etc)
  • Demonstration of in-depth, scientific-directed, innovative thinking
  • Self-motivated and focused with project management-oriented thinking; able to work on multiple projects in a matrix environment
  • Ability to work well as both team member and as individual contributor is essential
  • Good communication skills for cross-functional, management and external interactions; excellent oral presentation skills are critical
  • Requires strong organizational skills to ensure thorough and timely documentation of experiments, and preparation of data for compiling reports and presentations to research and corporate teams
  • Experience with cellular therapy, myeloid cells, and/or fibroblasts is an advantage
