The Impact You'll Make in this Role
  • Providing support for the EHS program at the Decatur site
  • Providing consulting services; developing and implementing safety programs; analyze data, and report trends and results to management
  • Participation in the site Emergency Response Team, including coordinating and attending training, inspections and responding to incidents
  • Involvement in various site wide EHS initiatives and projects designed to increase efficiency and effectiveness of the site's EHS programs

As an EHS Engineer- Safety Focus, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
  • Applying scientific, engineering principles and behavioral based systems to drive EHS risk reduction efforts and compliance with OSHA regulations and 3M policies
  • Actively supporting EHS Cultural Excellence through personal responsibility for safety, health, and environment, promoting a culture to address incidents, near-misses and potential hazards
  • Investigating workplace incidents and completing root cause analyses to determine appropriate corrective actions and conducting assessments of high hazard processes in order to reduce risk
  • Analyze data, self-assessments, reports, and trends to identify opportunities to improve EHS and Regulatory performance and assist in developing strategies for future improvements
  • Implementing on-going Safety and Emergency Response objectives and initiatives at the plant, including EHS-support contractor management
  • Developing and delivering health and safety policies, procedures, and training
  • Assist in IH assessments including noise monitoring, PPE assessments, air monitoring, SDS management and ventilation surveys
  • Maintain a presence in the field to influence positive behaviors to prevent

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in an engineering or science discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Three (3) years EHS experience in a manufacturing/production environment (private, public, government or military)

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
  • Master's degree with emphasis in Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Fire Protection or related EHS field from an accredited institution
  • Professional certification(s) such as: Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or willingness to obtain
  • Experience working in a chemical manufacturing environment
  • Experience or ability to develop understanding of, 3M standards and requirements
  • Self-directed, detail oriented, good interpersonal, communication, prioritization and organizational skills

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic

Relocation Assistance: Is authorized
